I met Howard when we shared a stage in San Francisco as part of the Resident Electronic Music Monthly. His set was mind-blowing, involving visuals created from a highly modified realtime 3D render of himself playing his music. It was a reminder that our future is not best served by flying cars, but personal ingenuity, shared with a lucky community. In the months since we shared that stage last year, I kept running into him at shows, and we are finally able to bring him to perform at Column!
ibre! (Howard Kim) is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Bay Area, CA. Starting out as a producer & singer-songwriter, his works today revolve around audiovisuals, live performances, and immersive installations. Armed with genre-bending style, technical fluency, and hands-on experience in event production, ibre! continues to experiment with modern methods of expression & design. last weekend i designed a village with nick @fivefold1.618 and became its oracle. i led the design of the space—including the lantern row and the tea room—and concepted the tesseract A/V installation with @ibrehyd, who brought it to life with the help of @desire2bmore.

nick came to me during the opening ceremony of my earthseed installation. he said he was building a world where reality isn’t fixed or handed down from above, but made—through attention, memory, and fellowship. and he needed a witch.

through my oracle series, i’ve come to understand identity as shared, suffering as collective, and healing as communal. the oracle heals because it knows your trouble was never only yours. it draws from a knowing older than the self—one that’s been dismissed, then forgotten, through the institutionalization of culture. nick was building a world on the same premise i’d already been building an altar for. he just gave me a village to put it in.

special congrats to nick for building this village and leading the team—truly one of the kindest, most diligent people i’ve met. congrats to @ibrehyd for building probably the biggest A/V installation he’s done, to @kyleoblue for bringing everyone together and helping with the build, and to @desire2bmore for leading the costume design and helping with the A/V set up. thank you @mooshkun for putting together the quests and being so accommodating with my chaotic creative process, to @byronmwong for being the best tea master, and last but certainly not the least, to @rama_mahesh_hall & @francis_senses for animating our world with their magical dance.

Origins is the fivefold debut jewelry collection that reimagines the Five Rings of Power from Lord of the Rings as five objects of collective strength: amulets that empower those around them through fellowship rather than domination.

The project was a critique on the rise of Technofacism and Silicon Valley’s shifting moral philosophy that frames software, industry, state capacity, and Western institutions as the primary engines of human flourishing.

It was also a self critique on my own attraction to material survival and power; a synthesis of my own moral and metaphysical philosophy; and a commitment to my own wizardry and participation in community.

More than that, it’s a love letter to my family, my friends, and my life — a material manifestation of the intentions I want to share with the world.

The collection features five pendants: one for each natural element and a fifth for the universal constant — pure consciousness — which drives them forward and creates physical reality. Each object is charged with the intentions and attributes I believe will lead to a more integrated world.

For one night at @tiny_fest_nor_cal, we will birth and live inside of that world, attempting to keep it alive through community participation as you quest for the objects.

There will be song, there will be dance, there will be interactive art and games and tomfoolery. The whole collection will be given away. Hopefully the world will not self-implode — as the balance and future of this universe will live in your hands.
