comment UMBRELLA and i’ll send you the full demo

imagine walking through the rain and your umbrella just follows you on its own,

no holding, no wet hands, no soaked sleeves,

someone actually built the first true hands-free umbrella that tracks your movement and stays with you wherever you go,

you’re rushing to a cab, running to work, walking home in a downpour, and it just covers you the whole time,

this is the kind of build that makes you stop and rewatch,

full credit to the original builder @ibuildstuffyt for putting this together,

An umbrella that follows you without being held sounds like something out of science fiction, but Canadian engineer John Tse actually built one.

Tse, the creator behind the @ibuildstuffyt YouTube channel, developed the flying umbrella as an engineering prototype using a custom-built drone, a time-of-flight (ToF) depth camera, onboard computing and autonomous flight software. In demonstrations, the umbrella tracks his movements and stays overhead as he walks.

The project was first featured by technology and design outlets earlier this year and has recently gone viral again as the videos spread across social media.

The flying umbrella isn't available for sale and remains an experimental prototype. While it's an impressive proof of concept, practical challenges such as battery life, wind and drone regulations would still need to be addressed before technology like this could see everyday use.

@ibuildstuffyt is no stranger from breaking the internet with their insane “at home builds”. The channel is built on the formula of: find an annoying or absurd problem, grab whatever consumer tech is nearby, and build something that genuinely works.

This formula has led the autonomous flying umbrella, a lego robot dog, and even a self-built satellite that got further than it had any business going.

His videos show the builds from idea to completion in a way that reveals just how simple the process actually is. Almost like anyone could build stuff like this.

This engineer from Canada built an umbrella that follows you around in the rain.

John Tse, the mind behind YouTube channel I Build Stuff, created a drone-powered umbrella that hovers above your head hands-free. It uses a time-of-flight depth camera to track your exact position, and a tiny Raspberry Pi computer tells the drone exactly where to fly to stay centered above you.

It's still just a prototype, battery life is only 10 to 15 minutes right now, and it's definitely not for sale yet. But some are calling it genius, while others are calling it absurd and pointless.

Would you actually use this monsoon, or is it just a fun engineering flex?

✔️ ауыл шаруашылығында қолданылады;
✔️ құтқару операцияларына қатысады;
✔️ жүк жеткізеді;

Someone just created an umbrella that flies above you and follows wherever you go. ☂️🚁
No hands needed. No handle to hold. Just walk.

With the help of cameras, sensors, and smart autopilot tech, this flying umbrella tracks the user in real time and stays perfectly positioned overhead while they move.

Earlier models needed manual control, but the latest version can follow its owner automatically in open spaces.

The biggest hurdle right now is latency even the smallest delay can make it difficult for the drone to match a person’s walking speed precisely.

Still, it gives us an exciting look at a future where personal robots move and interact with us naturally.

This creator built an umbrella that hovers above you, moving when you move, without you ever having to hold it.

The system relies on onboard cameras, sensors, and autopilot software to track the user and maintain position directly overhead as they walk.

Earlier versions were manually controlled. The latest iteration introduces real-time tracking, allowing the umbrella to follow its owner autonomously in open environments.

Latency remains the biggest challenge. Small delays make it difficult to perfectly match human walking speed, which is why the creator is now focused on improving response time and flight stability.

It is an early glimpse at personal robotics evolving
toward human-aware movement.☔🌧️
