A lovely afternoon at the ICAA (Institute of Classical Architecture & Art) book launch for Glorious Gardens, celebrating the gardens of some of the world’s leading interior designers.

Hosted in the beautiful garden of interior designer Paul Wiseman, which is featured in the book, the event was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the artistry and thought behind these exceptional spaces.

I had Paul sign my copy with one of my favorite quotes of his: “Often wrong, never in doubt.” A sentiment that always makes me smile.

It was a highlight spending the day with my roommate from my “good old” San Francisco days, Patricia Giffen, who is now an interior designer in Pacific Grove.

An afternoon of beautiful gardens, inspiring design, and familiar faces.

Held Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 PM at the historic California Club in Los Angeles, the evening is the organization's largest fundraiser of the year, celebrating @jba_interiordesign's remarkable career, generational influence, and exceptional contributions to the art of interior design — a body of work that speaks precisely to what classical design, at its best, has always stood for: permanence, craft, and beauty that endures.⁠

Few crafts transcend language, culture, and generations quite like classical architecture. While Vignola's The Five Orders of Architecture, codified in 1562, is one of architecture's foundational texts, Gold Collective member Adrian Taylor of Hyde Park Mouldings and acclaimed interior designer Alexa Hampton are bringing the enduring philosophies to life in a way never seen before.⁠

This month, they present The Orders — a collection of five hand-cast plaster tablets, with each representing one of the five classical orders of architecture: Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite. Where Vignola documented the orders on paper with the precision of a mathematician, The Orders render them in hand-cast plaster with the authority of the nest craft tradition in America — making tactile and permanent what has long existed only on the drawn page.⁠

More than a century after its founding, and eight years after its transformation into Saint Joseph’s Arts Society, our beloved church continues to stand as one of San Francisco’s most remarkable historic landmarks, inspiring a new generation of artists, makers, and creatives.

Last month, we were honored by the @icaanocal chapter with the Julia Morgan Award for Patronage & Stewardship. This recognition belongs not only to the team at Ken Fulk, but also to our partners at @pageturnbull and the countless artists, makers, performers, and supporters who continue to bring the church to life month after month through extraordinary experiences, exhibitions, and events. Together, they have helped ensure that this historic landmark remains a vibrant part of San Francisco’s cultural landscape.

There is always a certain thrill - and privilege - in working within the walls of a great historic house. Harrie T. Lindeberg understood that true luxury lives the details: the perfectly proportioned rooms, the thoughtful millwork, the quiet moments of craftsmanship that reveal themselves over time. Nearly a century later, his work continues to inspire, reminding us that good design doesn’t simply endure, it gets better with age.

I'm excited to share that I was recently awarded the Julia Morgan Award for my architectural thesis project at the University of Notre Dame. This award was established by the Northern California Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA). It celebrates architects and designers, artisans and builders, students and patrons, for their excellence in the contemporary practice and support of traditional and classical design.

Thank you to everyone who attended the ceremony to celebrate this accomplishment with me! I couldn't have done this without the support of everyone in my life who helped get me to this point in my career. Thank you to the ICAA and the jury for this incredible honor. Thank you to my professors at the Notre Dame School of Architecture, particularly Prof. Tiffany Abernathy and Prof. John Onyango for being my advisors for this project. Thank you to Hart Howerton and to all the friends and mentors I've met there. Earlier this month, we had the honor of receiving a Julia Morgan Award at the historic Green Room in San Francisco. Hosted by the ICAA Northern California Chapter, we were thrilled to have our Pebble Beach project win in the “Architecture – Restoration / Renovation” category. Of the project, the awards jury said:

“This Pebble Beach house shows an understanding of mid-coast California architecture. It exemplifies a sophisticated consistency of design and sensitivity to this beautiful part of the Pacific environment. The combination of woods, furniture, window placement, and detail rounds out this beautiful house.”

My sincere thanks to @classicist_org and @icaanocal, chapter president Nancy O’Connor, and the team who put this great event together.
