Canning has been awarded a 2026 John Staub Award from the Texas Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) in the Craftsmanship category. This exceptional achievement is for the interior beautification of St. Mary’s Church in Taylor, Texas. The John Staub Awards honor excellence in architecture and design rooted in classical and vernacular traditions. Named for John F. Staub, the prolific residential architect whose work shaped Texas architecture from the 1920s through the 1960s. Canning was a part of the church's interior beautification, which was centered not on architectural reconfiguration, but on the artful integration of decorative elements that would enrich and amplify its mid-century Gothic character. The 2026 John Staub Awards ceremony will be held on November 14th in Dallas, Texas.

Bronze patina forms naturally, with no intervention needed.

But in our workshop, we give natural alchemy a helping hand – immersing the bronze in a secret blend that influences the color of the patina.

A process that would take months or even years unfolds in minutes – but it’s never truly ‘finished’. Each piece will deepen in color and character for years to come.

We loved hosting the @icaatexas at our showroom yesterday for an evening with Brent Hull!

Brent spoke about the enduring relevance of traditional millwork and classical craftsmanship, and as fellow craftsmen, we loved learning more about the history of architectural millwork. We’re hopeful that leaders like him will inspire a new generation to value and preserve the timeless craftsmanship that has defined great architecture for centuries. And, of course, we’ll continue doing our part! 🪵⚒️

Where bronze comes to life ✨

We recently welcomed members of @icaatexas Chapter to our San Antonio workshop for a CEU-accredited educational event.

Together, we explored the history, material science and modern benefits of bronze, with the opportunity to see, touch and watch it taking shape in our workshop.

It's always our privilege to bring design professionals into our world, and our joy to watch their imaginations be sparked by what bronze can do.

Congratulations to our own Jordan Fredricksen, honored with the Emerging Professional Award at the 2026 John Staub Awards, presented by @icaatexas. This recognition celebrates her thesis project from the University of Notre Dame, “Kneupper, Texas: Dance Hall & Brewery” — a vision for a new Texas town.

Jordan has been part of our team for over two years, and this award is a wonderful reflection of the talent and thoughtfulness she brings to every project. We are grateful to @icaatexas for showcasing classical design and celebrating rising talent in the field.

Our firm is so proud to have won an @icaatexas John Staub award for our Hollywood Regency project in Dallas, a rewarding collaboration with @avreaandcompany. In the slides you can see our new handkerchief-vaulted entry hall, circular stair with bronze railing, vaulted butler’s pantry, and a detail of fluted plaster panels in the living room. This house celebrates the glamour of the period with geometric patterns, glittering, glossy finishes, and sculptural spaces. Photos by @ericpiasecki #peterpennoyerarchitects #dallas

There’s something special about seeing a home come alive with people who share a love of architecture and design.

We were delighted to welcome @icaatexas and its guests to our Heights Regency project for an evening spent experiencing the architecture, interiors, and details up close—followed by a signing of Refined Interiors and plenty of great conversation.

Thank you to @icaatexas for bringing this community together, to everyone who joined us, and to the extended BJD team whose talent and dedication helped bring this home to life.

A memorable evening with friends and colleagues, and one we were grateful to share.
