Castel Gandolfo (Papal Summer Palace) portrait of Pope Pius XII. You be the judge. Looks like some of the paint has aged badly. Also it appears individual humans should not be given too much power.

A visit to @icebox4go to see Denise Corley’s exhibition—a mini retrospective of sorts, starting with her latest work and going all the way back to her college days. I especially liked the newer pieces, colorful, funky, offbeat geometric forms made from painted cardboard, almost like Ugo Rondinone’s painted rocks outside of Las Vegas! Denise and her husband Tom founded Icebox4 in Brooklyn, and what I love about the space is its generosity and genuine sense of community. It’s great to see artists creating their own opportunities and making room for others along the way.

Pics: Denise with her recent work; portraits Denise made of her and Tom 1987 (bottom) and 2025 portraits Tom made of himself and Denise (top); details of work in the show; final 2 paintings- 1998 portrait of storied art dealer Richard Bellamy followed by 1987 portrait of their neighbor at the time, artist Alan Saret.
