Optimizing Pitch Design 📊 w/ MiLB RHP Tyler McKay SNK: 91-93 4S: 92-94 CH: 84-85 SWP: 82-84 Newly Added SL: 83-86 Career AAA stats (per Baseball Savant): 2.97 ERA 60.2 IP 56 K 1.43 WHIP 🎯 Over the offseason we identified a few goals for Tyler 1. Improve consistent ride on 4S with seam orientation tweaks 2. Add tighter slider/cutter variation to fill in the gap between his heater and large profile sweeper 3. Prioritize CH shape & command, esp R on R matchups When looking at what made Tyler successful in 2024, we identified improved overall command as a key component 2023 ➡️ 2024: Prior to 2 Strikes, his Zone % increased by 12 points and Strike % by 9 points. 23 ➡️24 vs LHB: BB% decreased to 13% and K% increased to 24% 1. We oriented his 4S to produce a consistent, highly efficient spin to induce ride. This can be a very effective pitch to LHB and plays well up in the zone from his low VAA. 2. In 2024, he improved his command of the Sweeper to 49% Zone% and Strike% by 10 points from the prev yr. The newly added SL shape gives Tyler a weapon to attack the zone early, in addition to the large profile sweeper later in counts 3. His CH has proven to be an effective pitch, esp vs RHB In 2024 vs RHB, he utilized the CH at 12% clip. P2K strike 74%, and SwStrk @ 17% Based on past success, this can continue to be a weapon for Tyler. #kcthrowing #pitchdesign #pitchoptimization #verticalapproachangle #milb #pitchdata #milbfreeagency #pitchmetrics #baseballpitching
