In her podcast, @museum_of_thought, Kaz Maurice O'Leary investigates behaviour, identity, and meaning through objects. For the set design, softseating benches are used as a sculptural element and seating area for her and her guests to sit while exploring meaningful objects and their personal or cultural significance.

Last month I sat down with @kaz.m.oleary from @museum_of_thought podcast to talk about an essay I wrote called Black in This World.

At the center of the conversation was a simple truth about my life.

I have an accent in every language I speak.

Wolof.
French.
English.

Each one carries a trace of somewhere else. Each one places me slightly outside of where I am.

That is the space I live in. Between cultures, between continents, between stories.

The essay begins there. It is part of a larger project about what it means to be Black in this world and to live between histories that were separated by the ocean. 🖤

Year of the Fire Horse, I felt compelled to create a passion project that felt reflective of my Asian American identity as we're living through a "very Chinese time" in our lives. Embracing the cultural differences, traditions, familial perspectives, the shoot works to capture both eastern and western influences of symbolism through craft and styling, grasping onto an identity and my mother tongue as it slowly unravels with time.
