📚Philbert Reads Poe📚

The Raven

Yes I know I have done this one before, but now we are in mid autumn I couldn’t resist giving it another go. It’s been too long since I have tested your attention spans with a long reading. In a world that is trying to melt your brain, sit back and let it grow with some classic gothic poetry.

Hi friends! Happy friday. I can't believe it's one week to Halloween already. Didn't October just start?

It's a pumpkin stack! I know i was tagged, but I forgot to check who before I started this. Thank you for the tag though!

Are you a big pumpkin hunter? Do you have particular qualifications for your pumpkin? Tall? Round? Warty? White? Orange? I love a good twisty stem if I can find one and manage to get it home whole. 🤣

Or what's been your favorite read of October so far? Any spooky reads you want to finish before the end of the month?

Are you enjoying the fall vibes? 🍁

Been a while since I last posted a color stack, so we have green for today. I have a lot of editing to do, but I try to enjoy some cozy fall vibes in the meantime.
Watching horror movies for spooky season, pumpkin spice lattes and all the good stuff. Also, made some progress on Heart Shaped Box and I'm enjoying it so far.

Ghost Stack! 👻 @boetbooks tagged me in this challenge, and of course I couldn't resist! I love spooky month challenges. Passing it along to some friends to make their own ghost stacks.

These little light-up ghosts are some of my favorite decor right now. I also just got some ghost glasses, ghost kitchen towels, and a blanket with ghost dogs on it – I think ghosts might be my 2026 theme. I feel like every year I focus on a particular thing, I can't help it!

👻 If you had to pick one Halloween symbol for this year (pumpkins, ghosts, skeletons, witches, etc), what would it be?

I saw @gilioncdumas post an October Scavenger Hunt by @nothing.beats.a.good.book

Title starting with O
The Odyssey by Homer

Pink Cover for Breast Cancer Month
Withering Heights by Emily Bronte

Animal on the Cover for World Animal Day
A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

Eye on the Cover for World Sight Day
Eragon by Christopher Paolini

Book set back in time for Daylight Saving
Saints by Orson Scott Card

Halloween or Orange Cover
A Game of Thrones

I wish I read both the Odyssey and Withering Heights already this year.
I wish more people would acknowledge the orange Game of Thrones cover, and even the shiny silver cover of the book.
The original cover of Eragon is an eye, and the spine of the hardcover is an eye.
And Saints gives a look at how LDS became popular in the 19th century.

Hi friends! No medieval Monday today as I'm up much too early and have nothing ready. Soooo a #connectfour of knights instead? Its kinda medievalish right?

I do love me some knights. Horses. Flashy armor. Jousting. All of it.

How was your weekend or anything exciting this week?

Have you read any of these? Or what's a favorite fantasy with classic knights in it? It's surprising there aren't as many when you think about it.

Im dusting off my dog training skillz and pretend like I know what im doing at a training seminar with Khan. Wish me luck!

Thanks to @jarjar.reads for the tag and tagging some folks as well.

🖤 I’ll tag some lovelies! Show us your orange and black stacks, flat lays, mug matches, whatever your fancy. No pressure, but all the pressure to tag me so I can see those beautiful posts.

🧡 Q: Do you have a favorite Halloween movie? Do you see any books you love in this flatlay? What are your weekend plans? What’s your favorite type of candy/sweet?

Hi friends! Happy Thursday! A bit of a red and black stack, mostly red, sorta themed, but idk i like the photo? 🤭

I dont have much for a caption today. Woke up with a headache and would rather sit in the dark than work but here we are. Maybe this Tylenol will kick in.

So lets steal from @maysmanyreads and do a this or that fall edition.

Apple spice or Pumpkin spice?
Zombie or skeleton?
Pumpkins or ornamental corn?
Vampires or werewolves?
Cemetery or haunted house?
Chili or soup?

💀Connect Four Challenge

🖤 You guys,, I think this might be my favorite bookish challenge. So when I was in need of a post, I thought, why not… let’s get this one cracking again. The options are endless and I just love seeing how people connect four books.

💀 In honor of spooky season, I decided to go with skulls on the cover. I feel like no matter what they always just look so aesthetically amazing and atmospheric.

🖤 I’m tagging a few lovelies to give us their own rendition of the connect four! I’d love to see what you come up with so please tag me 💀🖤💀

💀 Q: Do you decorate for Halloween? Are you into more spooky decor or general autumn vibes? Are you reading anything spooky this season?

5️⃣Five, Books, Five Stars, Five Genres5️⃣

@bloodandmoondust tagged me in this one a little while ago and I've tried to use some books I don't show very often (not all of them ok, Hobb is Hobb is Hobb).

Biography
👑Mary Queen of Scots - Antonia Fraser. I was low-key obsessed with Mary for a while and also Lord Darnley. This book is fantastic.

Lit Fic
🇮🇪Small Things Like These - Claire Keegan. This book is quietly profound in all the best ways. I still need to watch the adaptation.

Classics
😴Edgar Huntley or; Memoirs of a Sleepwalker - Charles Brockden Brown. When I say I don't vibe with American classics, this is always the exception!

Fantasy
🐺Assassin's Apprentice - Robin Hobb. I mean I don't really need to say anything do I?

Horror
Build Your House Around my Body - Violet Kupersmith. Another one I want to reread because I read this when I was high with flu and it was wild!

❓Do you read many different genres regularly?

💜🖤 Purple and Black Stack Challenge

🖤 Cheers to the lovely @tess_reads_books for the tag in her epic purple and black stack! Make sure you give her a follow and check out her amazing page.

💜 In regards to this being a purple and black stack, this one didn’t turn out quite how I wanted it to, but I still liked the actual aesthetic of it in the end, and your girl is tired and she decided to say fuck it… you know, for the plot or whatever the cool cats are saying these days.

🖤 Tagging some loves to give this one a go. No pressure but I’d love to see what you come up with. 💋🤍

💜 Q: What is your bookish hidden talent? I can sing along to songs out loud while I read. 😂
