When a book becomes part of the structure that holds it:
#BezalelGrad2026 – a glimpse into “Footnote”

A bookcase is a tangible repository of information that allows for ordering, marking, and change. It stands at the intersection between the intimacy of the reading experience and the physical, communicative presence of books.

The project by Alon Peled, from the Department of Industrial Design, explores the meeting point between book, shelf, and reader. The book is not merely placed on the shelf; it becomes part of the structure that holds it; a system in which the library grows out of the book itself.

Tie-Down Rocking Chair

One Off.

__________

From #One Off to manufactured object.

A continuation of the #OneOff project. I took the singular chair design and imbued it with the qualities of a mass-produced piece of furniture. The raw materials receive meticulous treatment, with careful consideration given to the product’s environment and the user, all while maintaining the principle of structural tension that I love so much. In this chair, too, the connections are formed without screws or adhesives; instead, two ratchet straps are tightened to bind everything together into a complete piece of furniture.

⁨ ⁨ My #1 OFF Rocking Chair

__________

A unique, singular rocking chair born of my passion for objects that embody structural tension.

The chair is composed of two birch plates, a metal plate, two square profiles, and ratchet straps that bind everything together- using only tension, without the need for glue or screws.⁩⁩

As part of a collaboration with JDC and the Former Women Fuelwood Carriers Association (FWFCA) in Addis Ababa, I conducted market research to deepen my understanding of the local textile and weaving landscape and explore new possibilities for FWFCA. This is how I came to Sabahar, where I was welcomed with warmth and generosity. The encounter became an important professional milestone in my journey and opened up new ways of thinking about the connection between traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design, and local and international markets. The knowledge, materials, and experiences I encountered there continued with me into my final project at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. The objects were presented at Bezalel’s Graduate Exhibition.

Thank you, Sabahar, for your friendship, for sharing your knowledge with me, and for being part of this journey. A special thank you to Wintana Taddese for your guidance, openness, and generosity.
