⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Directed by a very able Maddy Corner, the pacing is spot on."
— Cheryl Markosky, BroadwayWorld

Praised as a ground-breaking, highly confident debut, Romeo & Hamed pairs Scott Horgan's contemporary verse with a directorial hand that balances high-energy club scenes against quiet, intimate moments — a production the review calls compulsory viewing.

📍 Riverside Studios — until 6 September

Scott Horgan’s debut play takes Romeo and Juliet and rebuilds it in south London, directed by Maddy Corner. Horgan also plays Romeo, a young man escaping a rough past, opposite Anish Roy as Hamed, caring full time for his disabled father. The two fall for each other fast, faith and family pushing back the whole way. Dylan Morris, Micah Loubon, Charlie Cassen, Asif Khan, and Taz Rahman round out the cast.

It’s funny and genuinely moving in places. One of the strongest moments comes when Imam Yusuf agrees to marry the couple as a friend, off the books, not as a religious act.

«A wedding not bound by a religion,» is how Hamed puts it.

A Sinew Productions and Slime and Pies co-production, playing at @riversidestudioslondon until 6 September.
