Do you have an idea you want to make? Maybe even manufacture your own products? Looking for factories or suppliers?

Come to How to Find a Factory and Bring Your Idea to Life, Oct 28 at @designattech Georgia Tech’s School of Industrial Design.

We will talk about how to find inspiration and evaluate ideas. Then you’ll learn how to find and vet manufacturers, how to communicate with a factory, and the human side of manufacturing: factory visits, meetings, and the etiquette of building relationships over meals.

Manufacturing isn’t reserved for big companies or industry insiders. It’s a tool you can learn to use to bring your idea to life.

Sponsored by the School of Industrial Design, hosted by IDSA.

Wednesday, Oct 28, 5–6 PM
John and Joyce Caddell Building, Flex Space

RSVP via link in bio.

My first major project as an MID student! We were tasked with creating four rectilinear and 4 curvilinear forms out of XPS foam that had to have an interesting composition and visual hierarchy. We also were not allowed to use any adhesive for the assembly so all of the shapes you see here are connected using dowels and friction, nothing else! We spent about 20 hours over two days to start and finish, this was a great exercise and collaboration, and also getting acquainted with the shop. I need some sleep 😴

A team of industrial design students from Georgia Tech worked with residents at @a.g.rhodes — a non-profit senior care facility with rehabilitation and therapy programs. The students modified tools for plant care and created a wheelchair attachment that lets residents take plants with them wherever they go — making horticulture therapy more accessible. #WeCanDoThat 🌸🌱🐝

Every sketch starts with a question. Every prototype begins with an idea.

Inside Georgia Tech's Pre-College Industrial Design program, students explored how creativity, empathy, and innovation come together to shape the products and experiences people use every day. From concept sketching and design thinking to rapid prototyping, model making, and iterative development, every project challenged them to transform ideas into meaningful solutions.

Throughout the two-week studio experience, students collaborated, experimented, refined their designs through critiques, and learned that great design is built through curiosity, creativity, and continuous iteration. By exploring the complete design process, from identifying real-world challenges to developing functional prototypes, they discovered how Industrial Design balances aesthetics, usability, and purpose.

More than an introduction to Industrial Design, the program offered an immersive glimpse into the creative process behind designing products that improve everyday life. It is where imagination meets problem-solving, ideas become tangible, and innovation takes shape.

⚙️ Welcome to Georgia Tech Pre-College: Industrial Design.

Where curiosity sparks innovation, and tomorrow's designers begin creating the future.

Meet Astro!!

At the Georgia Tech College of Design, innovation often comes with four legs.

Astro, our robotic research platform based on the Boston Dynamics Spot robot, is helping students and faculty explore the future of design, technology, and the built environment. From architecture and building construction to industrial design and interdisciplinary research, Astro serves as a testbed for new ideas, prototypes, and emerging technologies.

Whether it's carrying custom-built frameworks, supporting experimental research, or bringing student concepts to life, Astro enables hands-on exploration across disciplines. With two robotic platforms currently supporting research initiatives, Astro continues to inspire new ways of thinking, designing, and making.

The future of design isn't just imagined here,
it's tested, built, and brought to life.
