THE GOOD THAT WE DO - DR ILEPE

In this episode of "The Good We Do", we talk about the power of honouring your associations and expressing genuine gratitude. Two simple principles that change everything and as a youth you must know.

Honour opens doors; gratitude keeps them open. Don’t treat meaningful relationships as ordinary.
You can be close to a great source and still receive nothing if you commonize it. Honour your associations. Express your gratitude.

Note the following;
1. Honour brings access. Gratitude keeps it flowing.
2. Don’t commonize the people God sent to lift you. Gratitude will take you further than talent.
3. Proximity isn’t the same as value - honour is. Don't downgrade what is meant to upgrade you.
4. Gratitude isn’t complete until it’s expressed.
5. Honour + Gratitude = Relationship Power. Gratitude is a force, Honour is a key. Put them together and watch your life shift.

If this blessed you, pass it on. Share this with someone who needs it.
See you next time on "The Good that we do"

THE GOOD 😊 THAT WE DO - DR. ILEPE
Owning up to your actions isn’t always easy - but it’s necessary.
Sometimes we make mistakes, and other times we’re right, but the way we said it made us wrong. In those moments, it’s not about how admitting it makes us feel, but about how it helps set the record straight.

Taking responsibility doesn’t reduce you; it refines you. It shows that integrity matters more than image. When we choose honesty over pride, we create space for healing, for growth, and for trust to return.
It's not about being perfect, it’s about being real.
Every time we own our truth, we do a little good in the world.
And that’s the good that we do. 🌿

FLAWLESS 💎
Flawless isn’t about perfection.
It’s about embracing every scar, every story, and every stumble and still standing tall.
Confidence is quiet.
Peace is loud.
And grace… that’s the real glow.
It hasn’t always been this way, but growth taught me silence can be strength, and peace can be power.
Flawless isn’t in how you look; it’s in how you rise, how you choose yourself again and again, even when no one’s clapping.

I had a tiring shift, but I still devoted 3 hours so you could see this. 💪
Hope you find a reason to pause, watch, and reflect; because sometimes, the lessons we need are hidden in simple stories.

Life doesn’t hand anyone a fair script, it gives us choices. The future we desire is written by the decisions we make today. Don’t run from the process; embrace it. The scars of sacrifice often become the stars of success.

World Heart Day Message from Dr. Ilepe 💓

Hi, my name is Dr. Ilepe, and today is World Heart Day.

September 29 is set aside every year on the global health calendar to recognize the importance of heart health, the prevention of heart disease, and the management of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels.

Today, I join countless other doctors and health advocates around the world to say:
❤️ Don’t Miss a Beat.

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure is at the center of most heart and blood vessel diseases, collectively known as cardiovascular diseases.

The truth is, hypertension is often called a “silent killer.” Many people living with it do not even know they have it. And among those who do, far too many are not on proper treatment.

There are many myths and misconceptions about heart disease, but today I want you to know the truth, and the truth alone.

To help you take charge of your health, I’ve put together a simple resource called:
📘 “Heart Aid: Your Quick Guide to a Healthy Heart.”

It’s designed to equip you with the knowledge you need to prevent heart disease, manage hypertension, and protect your heart for life.

What do I want you to know
Your heart health is in your hands.
It’s in a daily walk.
It’s in choosing less salt, less junk, and fewer fatty meals.
It’s in checking your stress.
It’s in saying no to smoking and no to alcohol consumption.

Heart disease is largely preventable. In fact, 80% of premature deaths could be avoided with early detection and simple lifestyle changes.

Let’s act now — for stronger hearts and longer lives. ❤️‍🔥

❤️ We Are Moving… Operation 50 for 50

It’s a long read — but I crave your indulgence.

Like a car on a rocky road, we keep moving.
There aren’t many on this path, but we press on — because at the end of the journey lie purpose and fulfilment.
So we continue, defying all odds, and persevering with hope that we will get there.

Three weeks ago, I set out on a mission — a financial support campaign to mark World Heart Day 2025.
My name is Dr. Ilepe Opeyemi, and this is the story of Operation 50 for 50.

On the 6th of September, an idea came to me — an idea to help 50 patients with heart disease who are held back by financial constraints. The goal: to help them access a crucial diagnostic test called echocardiography at accredited centres.

🌍 Why This Matters

According to global statistics:

🫀 Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide, responsible for ~20.5 million deaths each year — about 1 in 3 deaths.

💔 Coronary heart disease (heart attacks) and stroke account for over 80% of these deaths.

📈 More than 520 million people around the world live with some form of heart or circulatory disease.

⚠️ Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) bear ~75% of all CVD deaths, often due to limited access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment.

Here in Nigeria, the picture is no less alarming:

🇳🇬 About 350,000 – 400,000 Nigerians die from heart-related diseases every year.

📊 Ischaemic heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and rheumatic heart disease remain the leading causes.

⚠️ Most cases are diagnosed too late, and access to essential investigations like echocardiography is still severely limited.

💔 The Cost of a Beating Heart

Echocardiography is a lifesaving imaging test — crucial for diagnosing and managing conditions such as hypertensive heart disease, heart failure, and ischaemic heart disease.

Yet, the average cost in Nigeria ranges between ₦20,000 and ₦60,000 ($15–$45).
For context, the average monthly income is around ₦50,000 – ₦70,000.

This means a single echocardiogram — costing about ₦30,000 — can consume 40–60% of a month’s salary.
With most patients paying out-of-pocket, echocardiography becomes a luxury or...

Non-Pharmacological Management of Diabetes

Medications are important, but diet and lifestyle remain the backbone of diabetes care. They improve blood sugar, prevent complications, and can even delay diabetes onset.

📊 Evidence from Research:
The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) study found that people who lost 7% of their body weight and exercised at least 150 minutes per week reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% — more effective than some medications.

✅ Simple changes like healthier meals, regular activity, good sleep, and stress management can truly transform your health.
