🍂 ODE TO AUTUMN 🍂 Group Show
NOW ONLINE

✨IDINA MONCRIEFFE ✨

“Nature, often being the subject of my work and being my main source of inspiration has been beautifully described by Keats in Ode to Autumn which paints pictures in my mind that have become food for my imagination and magic for inspiration. Magic and nature are closely linked in my mind and I feel Ode to Autumn captures this well. Having a poem as a creative source of inspiration, I feel is very suited to my work as I find painting to be sort of musical. Like a poem, there is a rhythm to it.
Keats beautifully narrates a story which echoes imagery that not only awakens my imagination and reminds me of the magic in nature but also makes me think of how I can capture this in my work. “

“My practice involves working intuitively. Painting, I feel, is in a sense musical. Timing is important. When working from observation, colours and lines sing out to me and I echo them. When painting visions from my mind I am often working spontaneously. Although there are surreal elements, it is often allegorical or symbolic. I like to blur the boundaries between the physical and the nonphysical, allowing the unseen to be seen, whether this derives from the imagination or from real systems and processes in life. My subject matter often explores the human connection to and disconnection from nature and the mystical. Being present is important to me when I paint. I allow the medium to have a degree of agency. By not asserting full control over it, my work also becomes an exploration of the dialogue between me and the materials I’m working with. “
