At the end of the day, we just want to dance! We post about New Orleans a lot but Baton Rouge is where the dance that everybody is doing, Louisiana jigg originated.

What started in Baton Rouge, has become a dance recognized around the world an synonymous with a a good time all across Louisiana. Parties, graduations, birthday parties, a good day at work is celebration enough to start jiggin.

Jigg wasn’t created for social media or for a performance, this dance went viral on its own in neighborhoods, schoolyards, block parties, family gatherings, and dance battles. Over time, creativity and individuality took center stage and that’s where you see people show off their style incorporating flips and jumps into their jigg. Over the years, dancers from Baton Rouge earned a reputation for their speed, precision, and footwork which helped put the city’s dance culture on the map.

Today, jigg has evolved into one of the most recognizable party dances in Louisiana. People like @jiggliker0b always get the party started! I be watching his videos in slow mo trying to figure out where I be going wrong😂

My jigg is a mess but I can appreciate a good one when I see one. Whether it’s at a wedding, a birthday, a trail ride, a football game, or the club, chances are you’ll see someone start jigging if you’re in Louisiana. What was once a distinctly local tradition has spread far beyond state lines, with Baton Rouge dancers teaching, performing, and inspiring people across the country and around the world.

Black communities in Baton Rouge and Southeast Louisiana continue to shape music, dance, and popular culture. Every step tells a story of creativity, community, and a region whose influence reaches far beyond its borders.
