Feral. Absolutely feral.

As always, they tore it up. The crowd was absolutely insane. And we all saw more of @bowenidles than we bargained for.

Absolute scenes.

Ah @idlesband Edinburgh @smmrsessions Sessions - the whole place was a mosh pit.

Surprisingly got a few pics, a split lip and a few other bashes and bruises. It's great to see that crowdsurfing is back in a big way! Man my back hurts from being squashed second row from the front.

“LOVE IS THE FING” - One of the hardest things for me over the last few years has been rebuilding my confidence in literally everything I do. This week I’ve been trawling through Lightroom and old memory cards from past gigs, and I came across these IDLES shots I took on December 6, 2024 at O2 Apollo Manchester (the first of three sold-out nights). At the time, the inner critic was there on full blast as I looked through my camera roll “these are shit,” “you’ve overdone them,” “too dark, too light,” “you post too many pictures.” Blah blah blah blah BLAH.

Now I can’t pick a favourite.

Looking through them last night, I kept thinking, “How on earth did I miss so many of these?”

It was a brilliant, yet brutal gig in Manchester. Between the crowd and the security at an IDLES show, photographers could barely move around in the pit. Still, it turns out I actually got quite a few more strong shots than I thought and missed at the time. Why are creatives are so hard on themselves? And that’s without anyone else’s opinions.

Some @idlesband lyrics really resonate at the minute. Frontman Joe Talbot has spoken openly about mindfulness, therapy, vulnerability, and self-improvement as paths to being a better person. In a 2018 interview, he expressed wanting “to get to a place where I am the Dalai fucking Lama” which of course is a direct nod to Buddhist ideals of enlightened compassion and equanimity, a path I’m on myself (although I’ve no goals to becoming the Dalai Lama, although it wouldn’t be a bad thing ha).

I love this song as rejects institutional authority and idols which I’ve touched upon a lot recently “No god, no king, I said love is the thing. No crown, no ring” in favour of love as the fundamental force, which of course it is and not just for our family and friends, but for EVERYONE ✌🏻 #IDLES #IDLESBand #AFGang #TANGK

🔥 Idles - Brutalism

😍Brutalism is the debut studio album by Idles.

🗓️Released on the 10th of March 2017 on Partizan Records.

🖼️ Singer Joe Talbot’s mother who is pictured on the album cover along with a sculpture by Joe and his father died during the recording of the album after a long illness, and his time caring for her, and her death, had a major impact on the album.

🎸 The band recorded the album largely live in the studio, with each song recorded three times at most in order to keep a raw and urgent feel to them.

🖤A limited edition of 100 LPs were released in October 2017 with Talbot’s mother’s ashes pressed into the vinyl.

📻 BBC 6 Music described it as “Caustic, volatile, take-no-prisoners indie, that delivers a truly vital, adrenalin shot to the heart and mind.”
