✨Saturday, September 5th, our talented dancers from Spectrum Dance Center
took the stage at the Inland Empire Dance Festival @iecballet produced by the incredible Jamie Sachs,
Director & Founder of the Inland Empire Contemporary Ballet!✨

We were so thrilled to see Janell’s advanced
Thursday night commercial jazz dancers shine,
including Erica, Sydnie, Camilla, and Noelle
and a featured solo by SDC educator Mr Ace @aceaustriadance!
Each dancer brought their unique flair and passion
to the performance, making us incredibly proud! 🎶💃
Their performance of this multi faceted piece entitled “Once in Love” – truly inspired everyone in the audience!

We can’t wait to see our dancers bring the same energy and enthusiasm to their next performance
at the San Pedro TriArts Festival @lachoreographersanddancers next Saturday! 🎊

💃This free outdoor event is the perfect opportunity
to enjoy some beautiful dance performances
and celebrate creativity in our community.
We hope to see you all there and dance with you!🤗

REMINDER: NEW (OLD SKOOL) INT/ADV JAZZ THURS 1PM at @westsideballet starts TOMORROW 9/17. (I’m reminding myself too! Ha!) ⏳

Whenever I start a new class it’s scary. I have no idea if anyone will show up to dance with me. Imagine!?! The good news is I simply dance anyways…One student or one million students…I deliver the same energy & passion & heartfelt jazz class.

Every class I lead includes a Luigi/Hama style warmup (including 2 adagios!?!), across the floor progressions & classical choreography ranging from Lyrical to Luigi to Classic Hama to Modern Jazz to Broadway. It’s a “do-what-you-can do-today” environment. No filming. All training. And yes I love bringing out the best in everyone.

My personal lifelong jazz dance practice is about spreading joy, discipline, community, self love, confidence & artistry through practicing dance. As an experienced educator, performer & dancer I feel an obligation to help others cultivate their own rhythmic work-life balance by passing down the steps & time & energy my wonderful teachers have given to me. I love welcoming back returning dancers with a soft landing space. Grab a mat. Hang onto that bar & cry if you want. I gotchu. Dance has gotchu. It is the way. ♾️

I’ve performed on hundreds of stages in my 35+ years as a professional performer. It never gets old. But I do. Grateful to debut the World Premiere of “When We Were Young” by me & my mentor Hama at IE Dance Festival.

I’ve trained with Hama 30 years, assisting him the past 6. I’ve demonstrated every class, Master Class & been in rehearsals by his side learning, growing, laughing, training & becoming a better artist & dancer & teacher & human.

Together we’ve completed 10+ pieces, some not even staged yet(!?!) How cool is that!?! His work & legacy continues forever. NGL this solo last weekend was the best I’ve ever felt dancing on stage IN MY LIFE. I don’t take for granted my body will cooperate & I’ll be physically able or invited to perform it again. That is ok.

And that is what I’ve learned from Hama. And what I share with my own students through both our movement & choreo. My lifelong Jazz Practice teaches me this:

EVERY MOMENT IS PRECIOUS.

STAY HUMBLE.

GET RID OF ICKY STUFF.

BE KIND & GENEROUS WITH YOUR TIME & ART.

And in the wise words of both Hama’s teacher & my teacher Luigi…

“NEVER STOP MOVING.”

Thank you, Jeni Jones @jeniannejones
