$100 million fund target. $7.5 million potential IFC investment. A new financing opportunity could be opening for African fintechs.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is considering investing up to $7.5 million in Cauris Finance's Third Wave Fund, which plans to provide loans to digital lenders across Africa.

The fund is targeting $75 million, with a maximum size of $100 million.

About 60% of its capital would support fintechs lending to small businesses, while the remaining 40% would finance mobility-focused companies offering vehicle financing to entrepreneurs and drivers.

Unlike traditional venture capital, the fund would provide debt financing, allowing eligible fintechs to access capital without giving up ownership.

However, the IFC investment is still awaiting approval, with a board decision expected on November 30.

In 🇵🇭 the Philippines, a new Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded project will help mobilize private investment for biodiversity conservation by supporting the development of the country's first biodiversity bonds. The initiative will strengthen financial institutions' capacity to measure and report biodiversity impacts, while creating opportunities to channel private capital toward biodiversity-positive investments.

Supported by $4.5 million from the GEF's Global Biodiversity Framework Fund #GBFF and $95.9 million in co-financing, the project aims to establish the foundations for a sustainable biodiversity finance market, with the potential to replicate this approach across the region.

The project is implemented by the @worldbankgroup, in collaboration with the @ifc_org.
