[Link in bio] Screened at this year’s IFFI – International Film Festival Innsbruck @iffi.at, 'Habibi Hussein' (2025) by Alex Bakri follows Hussein, who worked for over forty years as the projectionist at the former Cinema Jenin in the West Bank.

Using footage from the Cinema Jenin reconstruction project, the film revisits the attempt to restore and reopen the historic cinema.
The documentary offers a counter-narrative that focuses Hussein's perspective and raises questions about power relations, representation, and the structures of Western cultural aid. At the same time, the film is reflecting on the craft of film projection and the role of cinema as cultural spaces.

🎬 Read more about it in the interview with Alex Bakri – now available online.

⭐ Caries by Aline Höchli (2025, Switzerland) received a Special Mention at the International Film Festival Innsbruck (2-7/7/2026)!

The film is an animated watercolour work set in a surreal landscape. It follows a shaman who paints large images on rock faces, initially perceiving her surroundings as a wild, stormy natural environment. This perception shifts when it is revealed that the landscape is in fact the inside of a weather presenter’s mouth, and that her paintings appear on his teeth, where they are ultimately received with discomfort and rejection in the human world.

Congrats to Aline and the whole film crew 💐💐💐

The International Film Festival Innsbruck (#IFFI) is a unique cultural event held annually in the heart of the Austrian Alps, Innsbruck. Established in 1992, the festival focuses on showcasing cinema from regions that are often underrepresented in mainstream European theaters, particularly Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Over several days, IFFI transforms Innsbruck into a vibrant hub for cinephiles, offering thought-provoking independent films, documentaries, and engaging discussions with international filmmakers.

Are you going to come for the festival today?
