First 4Iber as a new dad 🎣👶

Feels good to get a big fish to kick start the new year and changes. With the weather warming up and spring around the corner, these fish were starting to move on to beds!
•
It took us throwing baits at the males for a bit,
Pulling one of them off the bed, and then coming back an hour later to catch the female on the first cast 🎣✅

Absolutely choked it. 😳 That’s a @rapala rippin rap hiding way down there…

I was doing some gentle snaps of the rod to get the lure to do a simple yo-yo retrieve when the rod snapped down on this hit. The entire rod nearly flew out of my hand and onto the deck of the boat.

Surprisingly only 1 hook on 1 of the trebles actually dug in. Quick pop and she was free. Open water is off to a great start!

The boat is back and open water season has officially begun! You know it’s going to be a good year when the first fish over the side is a solid 4lb slob.

Spent the afternoon on Saturday un-winterizing the boat, installing the new electronics I picked up, and retying the long rods. With my school closed for Election Day today as my building is a polling place, it was time for the first full send of the season!

Battled sustained winds of 18-20 mph and rolling white caps for the entire trip. Only had one bite, but made it count with a really nice fish. Ain’t nothing like a little spring fishing to get you excited for a new season.

Didn’t think I would end the ice season with just toothy critters, did you? On top of the walleye and pike I also threw together a few nice Northwoods bass through the ice.

Both of these fish fell victim to a 4mm @widow_maker_lures polka dot jig and a fresh juicy wax worm. Love watching that mark float up on the @vexilarinc, setting the hook, and immediately knowing that’s no panfish. Bent rods and singing drag means only one thing; gamefish on!

Sad to see the ice go. But now it’s time for the boat and long rods to make their way out of storage!

Fishing in the rain after a long day at work.

Found myself with a free hour and a half just before sunset, so I headed out to a few local spots to see what was swimming around.

Found a few decent pond bass hanging around the weed edges. A super slow retrieve with a pause right along the weeds trigged all three bites that I got.

Might have been a little work getting them to commit, but once they hit, they meant business! Even these smaller pond bass are putting on the bulk for winter.

Probably the last time I’ll be fishing with temps in the 60s until next spring. Going to be in the mid 30s when I hit the water Saturday morning.

Swimming off strong. 🏊‍♂️

Nothing better than a healthy release on a nice fish. Let em go and let em grow! Hopefully a 5+ next time I see her.

Fall bite is on! I’ve transitioned over to moving baits and the reaction strikes just keep on coming.

Been throwing around bladebaits, squarebills, and lipless cranks… all 3 of which are getting consistently hammered.

The fall feeding frenzy is happening. Get out there and get on the bite before the temps drop and the fire dies out.

Fishing isn’t a hobby it’s a way of life. Every snag, every birds nest, every missed bite, early morning, and late night is worth it when it all comes together.

Time on the water is time well spent. Don’t like fishing? Sorry to hear that… But I don’t care; I love it!

Labor Day pond hopping with @kevvin978! Spent the morning hitting some of our favorite local honey holes.

Got a few nice bass at each place we stopped. Started out bright and early throwing a frog around, but then threw a little bit of everything at em. Got a bass on every lure I tied on, which never happens… 🤣

Not a bad day when you can slam the bass in the morning and still get 4 hours of yard work in during the afternoon.

Wading for the win! Got the chance to jump into the lake and chase some bass. Drop shots and Swimbaits were the hot bite out there.

Wading really opens up the shorelines for you and allow you to cast along those shallow structures.

Just make sure you know the general layout of the shore so you don’t end up swimming. Also, watch out for big turtle holes… that first step is a doozy! 🤣

Is there really anything better than fishing with friends? Drop shots and Ned rigs were the juice that evening.

I was lucky enough to get the elusive @mr.ehmen back on the water! For anyone keeping track, that’s two times in the same summer.

With summer coming to an end, back to school events, coaching, and having kids, time in August is at a premium for both of us.

Glad we could get out and get on some bass! Action was non-stop for us. We easily landed double-digit numbers in an hour or so.
