NEVER-NEVER LAND

1st photo : The ruler edged perfection of the Mentawai belies the fact that its waves are as heavy as anywhere in the world. And quite often, one finds oneself in a get-me-the-hell-out-of-here situation. But it is not so for the Mentawai kids. Come hell or high thunder, their miraculous daily access to it all allows them to take the power in stride. Ifran, facing a leviathan at Bank Vaults, and not worried about a thing.
2nd photo : And let us not forget that the local women have come of age in these waters, too. Alin Wilcoxen, leading the ladies charge at hideaways.
3rd photo : The expression on Balon’s face says everything you need to know about surfing big rifles. But when it’s in your front yard, your relationship with the wave becomes much more synchronous. For Balon, this is not so much an expression of fear as it is one of familiarity.
4th photo : Mentawai honed skills are the new performance high-water mark. Matching the perfection of the waves in the Mentawai with his own otherworldy abilities, makes for a match made in heavenly surf.
5th photo : No matter how comfortable you are with your local waters, sooner or later you are going to pay a price. Ifran, facing a moment of truth and consequences at serious Bank Vaults.
