FILM AND TOURISM: TELLING NIGERIA’S STORY TO THE WORLD 🎬 How can Nigerian films inspire people to explore Nigeria? This was part of the conversation at the opening of the 23rd Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), as industry stakeholders gathered in Abuja to celebrate filmmaking and explore its future. The event, held at Silverbird Cinemas, CBD, Abuja, had the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Ola Awakan, Founder of AIFF, Fidelis Duker, Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria and Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Mr Yang Jian Xing, and Chairman of Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Ltd., Bai Yimin alongside other industry stakeholders. Speaking at the ceremony, the NTDA Director General called for closer collaboration with filmmakers, screenwriters and the private sector to tell authentic Nigerian stories that reflect the country’s culture, arts, traditions, history and people. He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to working with the creative industry to promote Nigeria’s tourism destinations and festivals, recognising film as an important platform for showcasing the country to audiences at home and abroad. He added that NTDA will work with relevant stakeholders to berth Nigerian Tourism Film Festival to showcase specialized movies geared towards destination marketing. With this year’s theme, “Frames Without Borders: AI, Ethics, and the Future of Filmmaking,” the festival also creates room for conversations around emerging technology, responsible storytelling and international film collaboration. "When our stories reach the screen, they can open a window into Nigeria and inspire the world to experience the country for themselves", he added. The 23rd Abuja International Film Festival runs from 20 to 25 October 2026. @fmactce_nigeria @abujafilmfestival @nfvcb @nigfilmcorp #NigerianTourismDevelopmentAuthority #NTDA #AIFF2026
