It all started at a camera prep @heindl_cinema I was prepping two cameras for a different project when I came across @karsonholbrook at the bay next over, it was a short interaction but the next thing you know I was 2nd acing, cosplaying as a 1st ac if ever needed (which I did pull focus for one day)! It all happened so fast and I am eternally grateful to Karson for giving a stranger a chance! It was a right place, right timing situation! Probably one of my favorite cameras teams I’ve had a privilege working with. One of the most brilliant DP’s out there @samchatterjee absolutely slayed bringing the visuals to life. @karsonholbrook keeping it focused and keeping camera team on point everyday! One of the biggest inspos for steadicam I could ask for @raphaelvanoostrum LITERALLY the coolest thing ever was watching you steadi and cam op! I met one of my favorites @xjimbo7861x on this set and we have been kicking it ever since! B-Cam also killed it! I learned some sick marking tricks from Joe the B-cam 2nd AC! Also, shoutout to @zoelogapp for keeping myself organized, truly my best friend during this shoot! Outside of all the amazing and fun camera stuff we did, this set wouldn’t have been what it was for the brilliant minds behind #namaslay @junghalstudios x @rishandkanish !! Rish and Kanish set the tone on Day 1, making it known that everyone was special and important to this project. It was such an honor to be a part of a film with a powerful message behind it. Thank you for welcoming us into this story and trusting us to help bring the vision to life! I cannot believe it’s been 2 years already! It’s not everyday cast and crew all gel the way this team did! I loved every second of every day and wish we could relive it all over again because the vibes were that goooooddd!!!!!

4/ Scaling Up, Relationships & Networking NAMASLAY premieres tonight at @academymuseum and opens in AMC Theaters @amctheatres August 6th in Los Angeles and NY expanding nationwide from August 13th. I met Directing duo Rish and Kanish @junghalstudios via a good friend of mine Venk Potula @venkpotula. Venk and I had worked together previously on short films I had photographed, where Venk had produced, acted and directed. Good recommendations are 90% of getting the job. Venk knew exactly the right people to bring on this film, the amount of space to allow for them to channel their creativity and it was a joy to collaborate together. As Cinematographers, we can only be as creative as our Directors empower us to be, and we can only make it look as good as our Producers enable us to. ‘Namaslay’ is my third feature. It is a culmination of everything I’ve learnt in this industry in the last decade or so. Like every project ever, we were often needing to make sure we worked within the constraints of a budget and maximize production value all whilst making sure the story and performances stayed true. Directors, Rish and Kanish’s motto and email sign-off is “in service of story” which is what we tried to bring to every beat, every shot design, every set, every lighting decision, every challenge and every solution. We spent a few months mostly in a cafe going through pre production. designing shots and working over the beat sheet, before bringing in other HODs to collaborate and problem solve together. It was at times a blur, a whirlwind of passion, pure joy, with a cast and crew with full hearts, led fiercely by Rish, Kanish & Venk. We built a set with active fire, blew up backlots, photographed a set entirely wrapped in mirrors pointing at one another without needing to paint out our camera (more on this later), had marvel scale of blue screen work, cool wire rigs, stunts, vfx, all of it independently done. A huge shoutout to the entire cast and crew ❤️

I began acting when I was a little girl. Arman would write a play & then Pat, Q and I would spend weeks rehearsing before debuting the show at our home for our family and friends. For me, there is no greater feeling than making art surrounded by my brothers and closest friends. And we made absolute magic. Everything was perfect. The cast, the crew, the location—everything. This is the best thing I’ve ever written and I know every writer says that, but I truly mean it. I’ve wanted this life since I was a kid. I prayed it, I dreamt it, and now I have it 🤍

🤡Some unearthed BTS from our music video shoot for our cover of Daniel Johnston’s “Sorry Entertainer” (+ some quality @mattgossen content). We (& @ignaciogenzon )shot this over a year ago now and the video itself F-ING TANKED ☠️ but tbh we think it’s one of our best and it’ll find its audience eventually. That’s the beauty of social media! Songs & videos might not “perform” at first but they can raise a cold hand from the dead anytime 🧟‍♀️ maybe not today, but someday. Dunno why I’m sharing this BTS stuff now but…okay, enjoy! #punk #danieljohnston #grunge #coversong #rockmusic #musicvideo
