Fact of the Day: In the 1960 NFL draft Ernie Barnes was selected in the 10th round by the Baltimore Colts where he wore #73.

A true pioneer, Barnes was one of just nine HBCU players drafted of 240 players and one of the 30 black players selected. His legacy continues to light the way, and his impact on the NFL is still felt.

A special shoutout to Davius Richard, the QB from North Carolina Central University, Barnes’ alma mater, who carries on this legacy as a potential NFL Draftee.

Here's a toast to the bright journeys ahead for the HBCU draftees and a nod to the giants like Barnes who blazed the trail.

I got 5 ✋🏾 on it! Excited for the young men that laid it on the line & made history as football student-athletes at Benedict College! Now they are able to culminate their amazing careers in front of NFL, UFL & CFL scouts for a week in New Orleans, La at the @hbculegacybowl Feb 19-24, 2024. So proud of each and everyone of them & YES, they ALL HAVE GRADUATED & won CHAMPIONSHIPS 🎓🎓🏆🏆! The best part about it is that me & 5 of my assistants get to coach them one last time! I love my guys! To God be the Glory!

It was highly anticipated @thesiac matchup in primetime on ESPN 2. Fort Valley State University traveled to undefeated Benedict College. In front of a national audience Benedict showed to the world why this team is special winning 48-6.
