MOREE WINS FA CHECKMATES SPORTING LAGOS — ADVANCE TO SEMIS

Moree Wins Foundation Football Academy have once again proven their mettle at the ongoing Tata Multisport Preseason Tournament in Lagos, after holding former NPFL side, Sporting Lagos to 1-1 draw.

A third consecutive draw in Group A saw Moree Wins advance to the semifinal, edging NNL sides, 1472 and Sporting Lagos, after finishing second.

The match was filled with excitement and thrills, with both sides playing end-to-end attacking football. It wouldn’t take long before Sporting Lagos found the back of the net after a brilliant pass was slotted home by an onrushing forward. Sporting would continue to dominate the first twenty minutes of the game. In the last twenty-five, however, Moree Wins FA discovered their attacking feet and played some determined football. Yet, it was Sporting Lagos that would head to the break with a lone goal advantage.

The second half, like the first, had Sporting Lagos reestablishing dominance but it didn’t take long for Moree Wins FA to enjoy some moments of scintillating displays. Despite Moree Wins’ resurgence, it looked as though Sporting would take away all three points, until Igwe said no.

In the dying minutes of the proper 90, in-form attacker, @igwe_david09 headed home his second goal of the tournament from a brilliant corner kick by Left Back, @thissanabs to steal a draw from the claws of Sporting, that have been struggling since their first game versus First Bank FC.

The draw would ensure Moree Wins FA finished second in their group, pending the outcome of the match between First Bank FC (3) and 1472 FC (1). The other game’s outcome cemented Moree Wins’ qualification status, alongside group winners, First Bank FC.

Best of luck to the boys on their semifinal cracker versus Smart City FC in Onikan, tomorrow.

3pm. Be there.
