AKTIONALE 5 – Das nackte Sein
„Fehlzeit“ FINISSAGE 6. September 4 p.m. live Performances ‚Poetronic’ and ‚World’ by @zamjohnson @schlangenbader @machamel

With the fifth edition of AKTIONALE – The Naked Being, the exhibition series once again explores the multifaceted dimensions of human existence. Under the title “Absent Time”, the exhibition focuses on the human being as a contradictory, vulnerable, and at the same time visionary creature.

The works on display move between reality and imagination: multiple personalities, mutations, loving idealizations, hybrid beings in cyberspace, misguided paths, visionary worship, robots, dream figures, projections of hatred, and fantastical realities open up different perspectives on identity, the body, and consciousness. Through painting, sculpture, objects, installation, and video, striking artistic positions emerge that reflect on our present and open up new spaces for thought and imagery. Curators: Peter Schlangenbader and Larissa Nod
An exhibition catalogue is published.

Artists: Bernadette Arnaud ∙ Steffen Blunk ∙ Merit Fakler ∙ Zam Johnson ∙ Viktoria R. Müller ∙ Larissa Nod ∙ Nele Probst ∙ Martin L. Reiter ∙ Corinna Rosteck ∙ Katrin Salentin ∙ Peter Schlangenbader ∙ Anita Staud ∙ Klaus Theuerkauf ∙ Ila Wingen

September 2026.
Mi–So, 15–18 Uhr.

Kommt vorbei. Schaut euch um. Lasst euch überraschen.

The opening was wild, colorful, exciting – just as promised.

Great guests, great conversations, art that stays with you long after. Between painting, sculpture, performance, installation, object, and video, new worlds emerged – and we were all right in the middle of it.

Thank you to everyone who was there: for the good conversations, Art, the long looks at the works, the laughter in the courtyard, the new acquaintances and the old friends we reconnected with.

Faces and Masks: The Interwoven Relation.

🗓 Until 31 July 2026
📍 Nairobi Gallery, 31 Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi, Kenya

Laura Arminda Kingsley, She-Devil IV, 2026. Video, 4K (3840 × 2160), sound, 1 min 24 sec loop.

The She-Devil mask embodies the spirit and defiant energies of the Diablos Cojuelos (devils of the Dominican Carnival) to which it refers. Traditionally worn by men, the Diablo Cojuelo grants its wearer a temporary freedom to transgress social norms, provoke, and act without restraint. By creating and wearing this costume, I claim that freedom for myself and challenge the gendered boundaries embedded within the tradition.

Drawing on Carnival's history as a space of resistance, masquerade, and transformation, the She-Devil becomes more than a costume. Like the Carnival figures that emerged from acts of cultural survival and rebellion, the mask allows me to inhabit an alternative identity and question inherited structures of power. It enables an immediate connection to instinct, creates space for new associations, and transforms the body into a site of liberation, play, and self-determination.
