This week marks two years for me with @cycleoregon and it’s been, ahem, a hell of a ride. Rolling into 2020 was a challenge almost from the get-go and our small but mighty team at this storied non-profit had to adapt quite a lot in the 24 months since. And we made it. We more than made it! This September we hosted a special event series of back-to-back weekend events in Tygh Valley, Oregon and now stand ready to promote the full calendar of our events in 2022. We just announced another round of community grant recipients totaling over $125k across numerous organizations throughout the state. We’re launching a Safe Routes to School program for rural communities in the coming year and have a few more projects still to reveal.

Another program we’re proud of is one I got to spend a lot of time on this summer and fall - Connections. Through a grant from Travel Oregon we built a regional ride & tourism guide for Wallowa County, Oregon with support from and a focus on the Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland Center and the Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center. If you’ve not been to Wallowa or Enterprise or Joseph, Oregon I strongly recommend you make plans for 2022. Our partners in this project will show you an Indiginous and Black Oregon history that has not often been shared. Check out the Connections guide, there’s a link in my bio, and bring a bike. There are no stoplights in the entire county and luxury gravel as far as you can pedal.

I met so many wonderful people in Wallowa County and had the great fortune to reconnect with a former colleague, Jordan Reid, @ilikeitso.what who assisted Cycle Oregon with photography for this project. His eye and his work capture the beauty of this region and I cannot wait to get back out there in the Spring and ride bikes with this guy. We named the project Connections and it just kept on living up to that title; I’m so happy it brought me back in touch with him. I hope I get to do another one of these with him. And maybe one of you, too? Thanks, Jordan, and thanks to all the folks who keep Oregon connected by bike. ✌️❤️
