As a coach it’s your job to learn when to cue verbally and when that lifter needs a visual cue. A few of my folks are working on a more efficient turnover and this was one of the videos I sent out on how I cue it. For those visual learners out there, hope this helps conceptualize bringing the bar up and back.

I am not a fan of the “scarecrow” cue because most folks do not have the internal rotation in the shoulder to do this correctly AND keep the bar close. Figure out where the athlete is, then see where you want them to be, and find a way to bridge that gap. Cookie cutter cues don’t always get the job done.

Side note: The amount of PT exercises I had to do to be able to properly demo this was insane 😂.

Dear Past Scott,
Thanks for never giving up no matter how much you wanted to over the last 6 years. For still going to the gym to when you could barely walk. For the hours of mind numbing rehab when your hips fell apart. For being dumb and stubborn enough to keep chasing a 200kg squat when you couldn't even lift an empty bar.

November 14–15 we’re hosting the USA Weightlifting Level 2 Coaching Course here at 4 Star Strength & Conditioning in Livonia.

Level 1 gives you the foundation. Level 2 is where you start digging deeper into actually developing athletes, improving your technical eye, understanding programming and periodization, and learning how to make better coaching decisions as athletes progress.

✨ “Comparison is the thief of joy” ✨

We’ve all heard it a thousand times. But it hits different when you realize how much joy it’s actually stolen from you.

For a long time, I kept comparing myself to lifters I used to compete side-by-side with as a teenager… constantly checking where they were now versus where I was. It took all the fun out of training and left me chasing standards that weren’t even mine, lifting and body weight wise.

The moment I stopped looking side-to-side and decided to stay on my own path, I finally started loving lifting again.
In a world obsessed with shrinking down, losing weight, and chasing an ideal of perfection, I found that my absolute best self is-

15 lbs heavier, lifting completely pain-free, and balancing all the joys of life.

We all have different bodies, different seasons, and different plans. To each their own. But you will never find your own power if you’re constantly trying to follow someone else’s blueprint.

Stay in your lane, trust your path, and build the strength that belongs to you.

Just 314 days after shoulder surgery, I found myself back on the platform! There were a ton of emotions going into that first Lift, but it reminded me just how much I love the sport of weightlifting. Being on that platform in front of even the smallest amount of people is an amazing feeling, and from an athletic standpoint I don’t think there’s anything like it. I believe everyone should try it at least once.😄🏋️‍♂️

OH & that Clean & Jerk capped off a 184 Total giving me the State Record for Clean & Jerk and Total in my class

WHAT A DAY!!!

Thanks @kim.j.binder for all your support and @summit.barbell I guess we made another Comeback!!!

🏅Mid American Championships Recap🏅

@nico_gym0930 had a gritty and successful 4/6 performance bringing home a gold medal in the Junior 110+ category

In addition, Nick earned competition PRs in the clean & jerk and total! He continues to show improvement each time he shows up on the competition platform. Great job, Nick!

Had some fun this weekend (unofficially) breaking my own American records at the Mid-American Weightlifting Championships!! I love getting to compete at my home gym with all my friends! As always shout out to Coach Mike, Monika, and Lilly for keeping everything running smoothly and setting me up for success!! Counting this as a [clean + jerk dip triple] PR because we're at the end of our 24 shame spiral and I need to go face society and (mostly my clients and that's what I'll tell them when they ask how the meet went 😉).

The unhinged WLer in me needs to scrape the bottom of the barrel for some positives after my 1/6 weekend.

When you go big or go home, sometimes you go home and go back to work. 2026 is not the year for finals. 5 months til Arnolds.

Thanks to @summit.barbell @forzaweightlifting @illinois_weightlifting for a great meet and everyone's support throughout. Grateful for the @southloopsc crew support and teamwork so that we could all compete this weekend - I'm proud of how everyone showed up in all their various roles across the entire weekend. Thank you!

Very tired this morning but 80% is still moving…
•Snatches felt heavy but at least they looked pretty (albeit slow)
•CJs were a bit uglier but moving well enough

Got to break in my new @onyx_straps wrist wraps too, and I love the feel of them!

Big day for a few of the SledDog! @emmabechtle back on the platform with a super solid performance, bringing home hardware from Mid American Championships! @bp88kg with a big total and super solid performance, setting him up for huge lifts coming soon.
