Proud to represent the University of Illinois and the dairy industry through our Milk-a-Cow Booth at the Illinois State Fair. 🐄🥛

We loved seeing people of all ages stop by to learn about dairy farming, try milking a cow, and enjoy free milk from Prairie Farms. Thank you to everyone who visited and helped make the booth a success! 🧡💙

🔹🔸The Illinois Companion Animal Nutrition Program was pleased to welcome representatives from Kemin Industries - @keminindustries - to the University of Illinois for a day of collaboration, facility tours, and meaningful conversations.

The visit included a tour of the Illinois Feed Technology Center (FTC - @illinoisansc), followed by opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and graduate students across campus. The day concluded with a networking lunch, where graduate students from the Departments of Animal Sciences and Chemistry had the opportunity to learn more about Kemin, explore career opportunities, and engage in thoughtful discussions with the Kemin team.

A special thank you to Sara Martini, Kamie VanOtterloo, and Maddie Ruba - @kamievo @maddiekruba - from Kemin Industries for taking the time to visit our campus and engage with our students and research community. We also extend our sincere thanks to Amy Fruehling for coordinating the visit and to Leon Peters for leading an excellent tour of the Feed Technology Center. 💙🧡

We look forward to future collaborations and continued partnerships between the University of Illinois and Kemin Industries. 🤝

That’s a wrap folks! It’s been an amazing and memorable 10 weeks this summer! Thank you to Dixon Springs for the best roommates anyone could ask for and the best cows! I can’t wait to take all of this experience back with me and continue to learn and grow!
This last week we got to say see you later to all the amazing workers down at Dixon. I can’t wait to go back down for breeding season and see everyone again! Then we headed up to campus to see everyone and expand our resume and interview skills. I got to see my fecal samples I sent up and see how they do the ash and the acid detergent fiber procedures. I can’t wait to collect the data and become an excel nerd in the next couple of weeks. We even got to see the Champaigns county fair and watch a bunch of shows and got to see another rodeo!
Thank you to everyone for making this summer LEGEND - wait for it - DARY!

It’s week 9 here and it’s finally cooling off! This week we got to visit Western Illinois and it was so amazing to see all of the old fencing being torn up in time for new ones! I can’t wait to go back to Macomb and see it all beautiful! We also got to visit the Orr center and see there side of the production! With all of that traveling it gives me the perfect excuse to take some much needed naps! Then everyone got to come down and visit here at Dixon springs where we showed them the ropes of our day to day and working cattle and calves. It was amazing to see everyone this week and all get back together and we even got to go to the Saline county fair to watch tractor pulls! We also had the Illinois beef day down here and got to visit and meet producers, it was an amazing way to give back and learn! Only 1 week left to make countless memories down here!

We are at week 8 here at Dixon Springs! And let’s say it’s been a long week. The days are starting to feel a little longer with this amazing heat wave, but we are still making every day count! This week we got to do foot scoring and tried to do a 3D model with the back of their feet. It was really interesting to be a part of this research project and trying to help out the angus beef association! Even though it didn’t fully work out like we wanted it to, it was a fun process to learn. This week was full of finding new pot holes in new fields which always helps humble you that you don’t know everything just yet. With it being a little on the toasty side it’s not always easy counting the cows, but we always try to make it fun and a little game trying to find everyone! And of course there’s always more fencing that needs to be done, who knew you could swear through a pair of leather gloves. We also got to participate in the field day here and we got to talk to a lot of the community about the research farm here at Dixon. I love how close knit the community is with what goes on here not just with the cattle but the greenhouses too! I can’t wait for next week with beef day right around the corner and meeting producers!
