Saturday October 3rd at 2:00pm!

Join me at the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for a conversation about process, story, & connection!

I will be sharing my most recent body of work from my Master of Fine Arts in Illustration Thesis focused on celebrating the stories connected to California State Parks.
The work combines traditional and digital techniques such as linocut, screen printing, gauche, colored pencil, stencils, cyanotypes, and digital painting.

See you soon!

It was an honor to meet every one of you this past summer at the University of Hartford’s MFA program. I have been waiting my whole life to do so, and look forward to many more creative experiences together.

I wanted to share a little behind the scenes info about the visual essay I wrote and illustrated. For the past two years, while juggling client work and teaching responsibilities, I’ve been working towards my MFA in Illustration at the University of Hartford. “The Space We Make for Each Other” was one of the projects that ended up being part of my MFA thesis and thesis exhibition.
Being a student again, after so many years of teaching, has been such a pleasure and privilege. It has been wonderful to have the space to reconnect with work that is meaningful to me, and to be fully immersed in an environment with peers and educators who share similar interests.
Thank you @cfoxpayne @lcgdesign @billthomsonart @carolfschwartz and all the fantastic professors i had the opportunity to learn from during my time at Hartford’s @illustrationMFA - and of course my incredible cohort. 🫶 I’ll be sharing more of the process behind the work soon!

I sometimes get to make graphics and supplemental imagery for @thelocalseencommunitymedia in collaboration with the great @bbbubblefish , and they invited me into their studio in Plymouth, MA a few weeks ago for an interview about life as a recent graduate and Illustrator! It's linked in my bio if you want to check it out, comment and let me know how I did if you end up watching it.

The first Friday of our @illustrationmfa Summer session we have a life drawing night. It’s a great tradition that brings us all together as illustrators and friends. I went directly with ink this year but used a dying parallel pen. Something I’ve never thought about before this was how I draw with different media. My friend @anthonyermio asked a great question about how I decided to draw depending on the media I choose. I wasn’t quite sure how to respond. I just draw. His words were so much better at describing it. “You respond to the media”. That says it all. Maybe that will help someone understand the importance of playing around with different media when they get the chance. Build up a giant media library so you have all the tools you need to make visual jazz. #illustration #drawing #ink

We left in the early morning. A trip to see friends in Vermont before I spent two weeks with my @illustrationmfa family in Hartford, CT. Vermont was a lovely respite before I jumped into constant ideation and exploration. I’ve been documenting my MFA journey in dedicated sketchbooks that I plan to use for my thesis as well as for teaching. I try my best to draw all the guest speakers as well as my cohort with each trip. This Summer I found it particularly hard to capture likenesses. I had some success but missed the mark quite a few times. My next few posts will be dedicated to those two weeks.

A retirement gift for my @hartfordartschool mentor , program director, and all around artistic master, the great @cfoxpayne , who has carried the @illustrationmfa torch these last ten years! I was lucky to go through the MFA program while he was there, but the program will indeed continue on in the capable hands of @lcgdesign @dalestephanos @brianrlutz @carolfschwartz @shaynapiascik and others. #hartfordartschool #cfoxpayne #cfpayne #illustrationmfa #meesimo
