Gaza is more than war, destruction, and statistics. It is a place with a history, culture, memories, families, food, literature, and stories of survival. In this video, ARI’s communications intern Lina Asaad lists books that help us understand Gaza and Palestine through Palestinian voices, from colonial history and occupation to displacement, resilience, culture, and the ongoing genocide. Featuring writers including Abdalhadi Alijla, @plestia.alaqad , Atef Abu Saif, Laila El-Haddad, Abaher Alsakka, abedalla.sharshara and @yousrialghoul , these books offer memoirs, diaries, testimonies, histories, and lived experiences that challenge the shallow narratives often surrounding Gaza. The message is simple: Gaza should not only be spoken about. It should be heard through the voices of its people. This is also why Jalsa Falastiniya matters, creating space for Palestinian voices, stories, memories, and experiences to be heard directly. Discover the reading list, listen to Palestinian voices, and explore Gaza beyond the headlines. Even amidst upheaval and unpredictable times, to which our region has long been accustomed, ARI remains committed to producing homegrown knowledge that engages the MENA region’s communities and re-centres their priorities and interests. We also remain committed to building communities and carving out spaces for local voices, talents, and perspectives. We are opening a call for volunteer photographers who want to contribute photos from their archives to be used as covers for research and policy-oriented analysis. We’re looking for individuals who are either from or based in the MENA region, and whose work aligns with our areas of research, including climate justice, human rights, social protection, governance, and social change. Contributors will not be asked to produce new work. Instead, selected photographers will donate previously existing images that could accompany ARI’s publications. Your images will play a key role in shaping the visual language of our research, while reflecting the same commitment to ethical, locally grounded knowledge that underpins our written work. 🔗 مشروع - أوفلاين لكن أونلاين عالآخر مع الدلوعة بداخلك ومكس عبالي الشباب - في البايو👆 “Boys on my mind” is a return to the golden era of y2k Arabic pop, a time when women sang their desires openly and without apology, before emotions had to be softened, edited, or made palatable. It was an era where wanting was allowed to be loud. Check out Lina’s playlist via our youtube channel, and scroll through her TAPE project. “We realized that we work at the bougie mine. Like, they slapped a cute little logo on it, but we work in the mines.” For our fifth issue, Allie Rooney and Alex Walsh recount their successful organizing drive at the Sugared + Bronzed salon chain, where existing bonds of friendship developed into a practice of premajority unionism powerful enough to take on the girlboss. “The girls at all the stores in Southern California started talking more, and we realized that there were problems. “The fires really called the question for the girls at the Santa Monica location too. They were in the evacuation zone and weren’t let out for hours. “Our union rep told us: you have to act like a union, even before you’re in it. It’s like, okay, what would I do if I was in a union? “We’re fighting for everyone, even the people you don’t agree with, even the people you don’t like. You all have one thing in common, and that is organizing. “That’s what I think they underestimated when we filed… all we’ve been doing for the past couple years is supporting each other.
