This year I had my directorial debut at @ciffcalgary with a very special short documentary on Miss @cindy.ansah that I co-produced with @humainologie

Cindy is someone I have grown close with over the past couple years after she and @strawberryjortcake trusted me as producer of their Season 2 of @nappydance that debuted at @thegrandyyc . Cindy was not a subject of this documentary, but a participant and co-collaborator, she shared her inner world with me, and we walked together on her journey of truth. She is such a bright light in this world, that has so much life, creativity, wonder, spontaneity, strength, culture, vibes, softness, and passion inside of her. I got the chance to direct and shoot the episode with Cindy’s Mom which was a reminder to why I love documentary, capturing the deep, intimate moments that we only experience once in life, but through vulnerability and the camera we get to relive and share with an audience. This short portrait gives you a glimpse of that and it was a true honour to debut it in the city I grew up in, on the @cineplexmovies Chinook screens I watched for my whole life and with a company like @humainologie that endlessly supports women across Treaty 7.

Thank you to @xime.riaf our extraordinary DP who paired with our second camera and lead editor @gbohunm.i to create something that was so textured, layered, and decorated with emotion, dignified frames, and one in a lifetime moments of Cindy. Thank you to @salimainallu @ciermae for allowing the opportunity to grow as a director and producer through this opportunity, and to @kindemusic for being an amazing associate producer who kept all the pieces together.

Last but not least, thank you to @ciffcalgary for really investing in a team of programmers, volunteers, and administrators who care about Calgarian filmmakers on an authentic level. Your rigor to excel the festival each year to be more inclusive has not gone unnoticed and we are all rooting for this festival to continue growing. Until next time ❤️
