💛Here is a throwback to this time of year two years ago, when I played @imaeast last. I’m playing there TONIGHT and am having so many feelings!🫙

💌June Millington has produced two of my albums. She and her partner Ann started IMA years ago, and when it was on the west coast, my sister and I went to visit and that’s where i first met Ferron.

🎀When they moved east, our last #bitchandanimal album was the first album made in this house, right when June and Ann had first bought this place. We set up a control room in their bedroom, and tracked in the room next to it. My partner at the time @danielsea and I lived in my RV, Camp TWAT, in the driveway while we worked on the record.

🪩I learned so much from June and Ann. About music, but also about community.
They created an environment where any (mostly women and queer) musicians touring through, could come there day or night, and always find a communal meal and a bed to sleep in. June notoriously keeps rock and roll hours, so rolling in after a gig at 2 in the morning, you’d likely find June up, ready to hear about the show.

⭐️They have made this old farmhouse IMA-the Institute for Musical Arts- a place where young girl musicians can learn how to play instruments, learn about touring life, learn how to rock out on stage.

🎶One of their students, @lizkellymusic auditioned to go on tour with me when she was 16–orchestrated by June, who set a drum kit up in the garage and said “you gotta hear this kid play.” And she was right! Liz could sing, drum, play guitar, was a total whiz. I think she toured with me for 2 years! Some clubs she wasn’t even old enough to be a customer, so she would have to hang out in a back office until out set.

❤️Life is wild. Music has made so many lifetimes possible for me. Some days it can feel like a sacrifice I made to pursue an artist’s life, and other days, I can see how it’s given me a unique perspective. How songs have shaped the trajectory of my paths. How comforting it is, to have been down so many roads and be able to come back again and again to a familiar one.

Going to dust off some songs from “Make This Break This” tomorrow, produced by @manilajune
