Irish chef Beth O’Brien announces Roster, a workwear line for female chefs.

I spoke to @bethcooksthings for @image.ie in London recently about her new project @rosterworkwear and it was inspiring. She is bringing passion and dedication to solve a long-running problem that she has identified in kitchens.

“The key thing for me was the waist to hip ratio, the front part is straight with a waistband and zip, and the back has an elasticated portion, so they are a little bit more adjustable. Part of the issue that female chefs and women in general face is that their weight might fluctuate over the course of a month, so the aim was that these trousers would be comfortable and fit at any time,” Beth said. The chef also created a sizing chart in a way that she hopes will apply and be accessible to the widest range of bodies.

Having followed the career of @sjodwyer since graduation and having interviewed her two years ago for @image.ie I was delighted to be invited by @lorealpro to attend her show in @cityhall as part of @irelandfashionweek last Friday.

The show was just as I expected - thrilling, sexy, an ode to modern crafts(wo)manship and utterly celebratory of the body in all its forms. Renowned for rejecting conventions such as the idea of the standard fit model, the award winning designer works with silicone models and a broad range of models to create clothing that is designed to fit, and flatter, people existing in all types of bodies. It has always been interesting to me and is perhaps even more topical given the conversation around weight loss drugs and the fashion industry.

I was also thrilled to finally meet Sinéad's father renowned silversmith, sculptor, photographer and writer Kevin O’Dwyer, as we're been in touch for some time but had never quite met, and her mother classical musician Adele O’Dwyer. I've been a massive fan of shoe designer Tabitha Ringwood for years since she worked on some collaborative pieces with another irish designer @andrewbell so I was drooling at the shoes and boots as they glided across the marble floors under the watchful gaze of all those male statues.

Speaking to me for Image back in 2024, the @bof 500 designer told me: “The only reason those silhouettes haven’t been rethought for a curvier body is because the focus has been on sample sizes, and the male gaze, and male designers have been at the forefront for so long. The work just hasn’t been done to make those patterns [that look good on straighter bodies] for a bigger range of bodies – so it is about unlearning how we look at, and perceive, different bodies in the luxury fashion sector.”

Review panel complete ❤️

Today I had the privilege of coming together with the review panel for the @image.ie Mother Awards at the beautiful @housedublin2 in Dublin.

Having spent time with all the stories, their magnitude was amplified when we all sat around together to give them the light they deserve.

Story after story of extraordinary people. People overcoming pain, raising families, navigating adversity, creating change, supporting communities and somehow continuing to show up, often while carrying far more than anyone around them might ever know.

There were moments that made us smile, moments that stopped us in our tracks and more than a few that brought tears to the room.

And perhaps the biggest takeaway from today was this,
L O V E is the unstoppable force.

Every person whose story we had the privilege of speaking about today deserves to feel immensely proud of what they have created, overcome and contributed.

A huge thank you to the people who submitted the nominations, to the IMAGE team Dominique McMullan Ciara Cosgrove and Sophie Fitzpatrick for trusting me with the responsibility of being part of the review panel, to my fellow panellists Tammy Darcy MBS EMBA Clare McKenna Clir. Oluwayemi - Yemi Adenuga Sophie Power Maoliosa Connell Dr. Colman Noctor Jana Solovjova Samantha Forrest for such thoughtful and considered conversations, and to the wonderful team at House Dublin for looking after us so beautifully.

What a privilege to spend a day in conversation and awe about people doing extraordinary things, in all the different ways that extraordinary can look.

I left with a very full heart today.❤️
