It’s about healing, not hurt. It’s about correction, not casting away. It’s about acceptance, not approval. As a community we work together to help the youth along the way. Giving them a different perspective on life. We opened this barbershop with the community in mind. We are grateful to partner with @rutgersnewarkofficial @ru.bpn @run_bos @hllc_hq and many others on this event. Providing a safe space for growth is our pleasure. ⚜️ #newark #community #blackhistorymonth #rutgersnewark #rutgers

(Session 4) What I’m saying is important. What’s more important is their engagement, their involvement, their responses and laughter. That’s how you know they are comfortable with the speaker. @changes_nj was created for these young men in mind. The ones who are in need of guidance….The ones who will listen and use what’s learned, with big brothers there to assist. When it comes down to it, this generation is our literal future. If not now, then when ??!! These are current numbers in the U.S. alone! In the 90’s I was an at-risk teen and endured years of incarceration due to a failing system. I am 41 years old today, and due to the many times the state took me away from the world (often times over a dirty urine from smoking marijuana), I suffer from PTSD, depression and self sabotage. The residual effects from the trauma of being taken away over something that needed treatment, not punishment, haunt me today. I want to be a part of the prison reform by dedicating myself to this program full on. To go into the juvenile jails across my state and offer advice, encouragement and a new way of thinking before they are released. Upon release, this program is designed to receive the participating youth into our outpatient program, continuing what has begun in the months prior to them being released. We will have a team of Big Brothers waiting to assist the youth as they get adjusted back to society. More info will be included in the link. #prisonreform #juvenilejustice #usa #newjersey #newark #justice #freedom #community #change #changes #changesnj

3rd session done today! September 10th! Thankful to have these guys listening. Very attentive now. The real work is when they are released. This is the main focus of my program. To try and help change their minds while inside, with no distractions. Then come home ready to live differently. Next week I will show them part of the 13th documentary. Will be Eye Opening for them. To God be the glory. #changes #change #mentor #mentoring #newark #newarknj #jersey #youthempowerment

Most don’t know, but prison reform has been something on my heart since I came home in 2007. When I was released I promised to come back in a different form. To help the young ones so they don’t have to go through what I endured. Today I will begin my program inside youth facilities all over New Jersey. Starting with the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center. When I was incarcerated as a teen there were no programs available, no one coming in to offer insight on how to stay out. I want to change that by offering myself as a mentor and big brother to these teens around the state. Changing there mindsets with a 12 week program. Offering jobs within my shops if they go to school and get licensed. We all know it starts with the youth. And it starts now. Looking forward to sharing progress as it goes. #change #newark #nj #newbrunswick #essexcounty #middlesexcounty
