Hello Emri,

Thank you for the invitation. It was a genuine pleasure to be part of such a remarkable evening.

I left truly impressed by both the craftsmanship and the manner in which the collection was presented. There is a quiet confidence to your work refined, considered, and never excessive. It speaks of modern masculinity with remarkable restraint.

As an Asian man, I found it especially meaningful to witness a body of work that represents the contemporary gentleman with such elegance and conviction. It feels less like fashion, and more like a cultural conversation told through tailoring.

Beautifully filmed and edited by Sera, whose eye captured not only the moments, but also the nuance and atmosphere that made the evening so memorable.

Congratulations to you and the entire team. A beautiful presentation, and one I won’t soon forget.

Funny how some of the best evenings are never planned. Just good friends, a table full of nasi, and a meal so good it made everyone quiet for a minute. Wahhh. Sedap gila.

Supposed to reach a meeting at 11am today, but it got cancelled last minute. Then it was Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Seri Kembangan, and back to Bandar Sri Permaisuri again. One cancellation here, another delay there. I genuinely thought I’d make it back to the hotel early and sneak in a bit of rest before my 6pm class. Ended up spending 55 minutes stuck in traffic from God knows where and only reached the hotel at 6:55pm.

In between all that, I made a few calls. “Oi, korang dinner dekat mana?” One was attending an event, another was busy, and meanwhile aku dah kebulur, really not in the mood to makan seorang diri. Then the phone rang.

“Heyyy Ooi, Rome and Sera free tonight. Jom dinner sekali.”

And just like that, the whole day changed direction. Good friends, good conversations, a table full of nasi, and a meal that genuinely deserved a moment of silence. Sometimes, after being cancelled here and there and delayed here and there, life quietly sends you exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Last night, I came with my circle
Sera, Isabel, and curiosity

Isabel loves theatre, so I followed
I told Sera, jom, let’s go watch Alang ( @fadhlimasoot ) on stage
Teater “Masmoona”
M Theatre, MAHSA Avenue, Petaling Jaya
Lights dimmed, halfway in, already swallowed by darkness

At some point Isabel whispered,
“That’s Nadia Khan. She’s my favourite.”
Same row, just across
A writer she grew up with, sitting quietly,
watching the same story unfold
We waited, respectfully, letting the theatre breathe first

The play stayed with me
A man migrating to Kuala Lumpur
A woman pulled into its darker corners
Not melodrama, but choices
Nasib

Kita dibesarkan dengan didikan yang baik
Promised knowledge, love, progress, maybe wealth
But when we move, when we leave home,
the city answers differently

What struck me was this
No matter how prepared we are
education, values, discipline
we still need to hold on to what we were taught
to survive what life throws back at us

I loved it
The pacing, the honesty, the silence
Minimal set, strong presence
Wardrobe and styling were quietly powerful
Nothing excessive, everything intentional

Proud of this production
Proud of Malaysian theatre
This wasn’t just a show
It felt like a mirror

Some stories don’t shout
They sit with you
And follow you home

Bila visual naik di screen, masa kami bukan lagi 10 minit.
Cuma 2minit.
Dan itu mengubah segalanya.

Fan semua dah masuk. Visual dah jalan. Set pertama, Nostalgia, baru saja habis. Striped shirt masih hangat dengan sorakan. Sekarang jam 8:53 malam. Tinggal beberapa saat sebelum masuk Set 2: Dark. Outfit kedua leather jacket. Timer dalam kepala aku terus berdetik. 3… 2… 1…

Dan tiba-tiba aku teringat bukan Set 2 yang menghantui aku, tapi Set 3: Mellow. Green suit. Rambut Ali kena ubah, spek pun tukar. Sepatutnya ada 10 minit, tapi bila visual naik di screen, Mawi bisik: “kita tinggal 2 minit je.” Dunia terus jadi chaos.

Turning point bermula di Set 2. Tukar ke leather jacket hanya diberi 3 minit, real tinggal 2. Arahan datang: Cherry keluar ikut kanan stage, Ali & Mawi maintain kiri. Arahan itu ubah segalanya. Stage manager perasan flow takkan sempat, lalu Station 2 dipecah dua. Lahirlah Station 4 di kanan stage. Akim set up station baru itu serta-merta.

Aku dengan Rom dan Bukh siapkan look Ali & Mawi di Station 2. Rambut Ali makan masa, spek dia tunggu giliran. Bila mereka dibawa ke stage, kepala aku masih ligat risau. Nampak mereka ready “on stage”, aku terus sprint. Lorong sempit, nafas pendek, masuk Station 4. Akim dengan Rom tengah finalize Cherry, aku masuk buat final call. Semua dalam detik yang singkat.

Rewind. Pukul 5 petang, Meet & Greet look serba hitam, jaket jeans. Flow smooth, latihan rupture station. Set 1: Nostalgia striped shirt, semua siap di Station 1. Tenang, seolah malam itu akan berjalan lancar.

Tapi Set 2 pecahkan segalanya. Leather jacket jadi titik mula. Arahan keluar itulah yang cipta Station 4. Dan Set 3 jadi neraka kecil green suit, rambut, spek, semua detail dalam masa yang seolah disingkat.

Set 4: Pesta akhirnya smooth. Suit hijau kekal, Ali tukar spek lain. Station dah align, crowd menjerit, lampu penuh warna. Malam itu seolah kembali tenang.

Tapi sampai sekarang, satu persoalan masih berputar: kalau arahan itu tak pernah turun, kalau Station 4 tidak pernah diwujudkan… adakah malam itu tetap berjalan sama? Atau semuanya hanya kebetulan yang terlalu sempurna?

Arrived early with Hamzah that morning, navigating the usual chaos of parking at Lalaport before stepping into Zepp KL. By 11AM, the station was set, outfits ready, and the team in place.

Eja (drummer) and Zach (keyboardist) had two attires prepared, while Ceri, Ali, and Mawi carried four looks each change marking the journey of MASDO from striped shirts to the identity they proudly hold today.

Proud that Xluster (GlamTeam) has been part of this journey since year 9, shaping the glam quietly behind the scenes, while Mawi himself continues to guard the soul of the MASDO look. Backstage was hectic yet filled with purpose, made possible by an incredible team: our coordinator Sera, Akim (Assistant Hair & Stylist), and Rome & Bukh (Assistant Stylists).

Hairstyling has been part of this 10-year story too. Back when MASDO first debuted, Ali came up with the elephant trunk hairstyle and when I interviewed him, he admitted the very first show took nearly two hours just to get that hair done. I remember thinking: why would you debut with such a crazy hairstyle? But that’s what made MASDO stand out. I’m grateful to have had the hairstylist team by my side especially Akim, who made sure we carried this legacy look together. Honestly, that kind of hair is impossible for one person to handle alone in such a short time.

The show was madness, and the energy backstage even more. Controlled chaos, sleepless nights, endless fittings but every detail was worth it. From the first call time till the credits rolled, our mission stayed the same: to make sure MASDO looked like MASDO. 💫
