No explanations needed - just understanding.
That is what the making of Absolutely No Bruises gave me. A circle of women who understood every word without needing it explained. The kindness behind a simple “ok.” No questions asked and instead only a gentle reminder: take care of yourself.
When you create work about pain, the room you create it in matters. Through the Demand to Be Heard residency with The Sunflower Project, I found that room and the people in it became friends, witnesses, and family.
My doctoral research had brought out a key message that healing is never a solo act and Safety is relational. These pictures are the living proof: we can be joyful, playful, radiant when we are given the right space, love, and opportunity.

This is Shakti — the feminine force that bends but does not break, that returns, rises, and creates. To every survivor who has ever been told to be quiet, look at these faces.

There are no words to describe how incredible last weekend’s Demand To Be Heard Festival was… so here are some of our favorite photos! We will share more throughout October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

6 Years of Jess

This was the year with everything in it. We got engaged, got to start our life, and supported each other through new projects, challenges, transitions, and adventures. You have shown through your work & friendships an unparalleled amount of support, empathy, care, and resolve that is endlessly inspiring to me. To know you is to be seen in a new light & never be truly feel alone. To love you is to always feel important - to show up, to be challenged, to grow into someone better. Being with you has meant that there’s always a safe place to land, an eye in the hurricane of difficult problems & projects & world news, and a sigh of relief after a tough day.

I’m floored thinking of everything we’ve been through & experienced and I’m so happy to keep building this life we made together.

BABY GOT BACH 💍🍾🤍

My two maids of honor Jess and Celia decided to plan the entire ‘Beachelorette’ party and surprise me, and it was the kindest thing they could have done for me.

We spent the week in Encinitas, played games they created based on me and Ray, did a Bagel-themed paint and sip, spent a day at the beach and a day at a resort, screamed Mamma Mia, took ten thousand photos, and happy cried constantly. I feel so loved and supported and celebrated I could just explode!

These are the women who have taught me how to love and be loved, so it’s only fitting they get to see me off into the next love-filled chapter of my life! You all are the BEST!!
