On Thursday, I wrapped one of the final large components of my mini-album campaign that I’ve been working on for over a year. I don’t think I’m actually talented at anything aside from having a drive to do something and seeing it through to its end, and so for this project (I entitled Sincerely, Mr. Love & Pop, for the two words I felt were bastardized by a sub-par film in 1998), I:

relearned Japanese (since I wanted an excuse to), wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered a record, co-produced with my wonderful friend of the internet Janghoon,

shot the cover artwork with my other beautiful friend of the internet Lisa (Mini Lis ☆),

produced a music video in New York City with Junting (introduced to me by Junlin, whom I met though internet DJ oomf Aster in the summer nightlife), Tin (who JT brought in), Ellen (the beautiful XCX angel), Yujun (who intro-ed me to K-pop choreo world in freshman year with a BTBT open class that was lowkey traumatizing), Tommy (through the Oomfcon community and the best collaborator in anything that I’ve ever worked with), Vinny, Ronnie, and Alejandro, Future Treasure, Shanice Archive, Roy Luo, Graeme Schneider (thank you guys for trusting us with your beautiful pieces), Alexis, Hinana, Klaire, Malcolm, Arabella, Annabel, Albert, CL, and Claire (thank you all for being the best),

+ threw 2 huge parties (with Life After Trance, Blizzy McGuire, Beverly’s, Kodansha House, Gagbert, Cute Boys, Océane, Robyn Dabank, Aster, Mini Lis ☆, and Bubucore).

I believe in doing things you love and having far-out, impossible dreams and doing things with the highest self-governed rigor and integrity. Whether it’s waking up at 5am to keep a streak of reading 3-4 books a month (since some little elf in the back of your head says that you may want to write a novel about your pop star life in the next five years) or creating every sound from scratch for years before even allowing yourself to touch another producer’s work.

It’s hard for creative people to be satisfied with their output, and I’m satisfied with this work. I’m glad I did it now, toward the Someday, because what else am I supposed to fucking do in this life. Goodbye

Sincerely,
Mr. Love & Pop
