@imlaurengreen #imlaurengreenprompts 1. i’ve been dying since birth

this here’s a countdown. keep
a tally of breaths in my wallet.
been there since my first wail
into this earth. can’t know when
my last will be. hope the air is
fresh. promising me an easier
transition into an after.

A mini story or maybe something longer? I picked @imlaurengreen number 6 prompt: flames burn behind my eyes. I'd love to do some digging into my ancestory and find out I'm related to witches. Maybe one can visit me in my dreams and let me know 🧙🏻‍♀️ 🐈‍⬛️🪄 Also any excuse to include trees into my writing and share some of my most recent pics of them 🍂🌳🍁

"Collecting pine cones" - Gonçalo Ribeiro

Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons, with the winds picking up and all the colours around us changing. It is also a melancholic season, one that produces change in everything around us.

Autumn holds a special place in my heart. It made me realise how much I have changed, but also how much I miss the times when I didn't have to change. Memories flood my mind of a time I cannot recover, but a time that induces my growth.

After the reminder of what was home, comes the gruesome and cold stage of yearning. The same thing happens with nature, as the winds of Autumn prepare us for the cold and harsh reality of Winter.

This poem was written with a prompt as inspiration. In an endless search for creativity, it was this prompt that brought a start to this poem.

🦋Passing through the Veil🦋

📝 Prompts used:
✍️ [voices] by @thistooisholy for the October edition of the Poetry Exchange
✍️ [I've been dying every day since birth] by @imlaurengreen
✍️ [the kettle screamed my name] by @ml.mecham & @forgotten.dumpling
✍️ [it creeps in the attic] by @nikkilauranwrites
✍️ [molting inside the mirror] by @thistooisholy

✏️ my penpals: @rhymes.without.reason & @notthatisaac

🖼️ text reads:
[The ghosts don't roam the graveyard,
they hide in unsuspecting places instead -
a haunting cacophony of whispered voices,
flickering remnants of everything left unsaid

that creak and creep in the attic
while the kettle screams my name.
My apathy grows limbs in the hallway,
while the chords of my voice thrum in blame.

My lips part, and a viscous silence spills out,
as I watch my face mottle and molt in the mirror.
The ghosts around me make so much noise,
arrhythmic and resonating, refusing to appear.

Living now in bytes, you have become a ghost,
leaving me listless, waiting for some sort of sign -
forever a spectral memory living on in voicemails
and piano pieces you played, lingering in my mind.

You left this plane, passing through the veil,
and I feel the damage down to my core.
I may have been dying every day since birth,
but now I die every day just a little bit more.

I'm barely surviving in a webbed cocoon of echoes,
no beauty to be found, only sorrow and remorse.
Among the discordant chorus of the lost,
the most haunting voice of all will forever be yours.]

It is the cozy season and the season for colour but it is also the season for cozy sweaters and layers of clothing. That's why this poetry prompt "more knitwear than sense" by @imlaurengreen made me chuckle and pick up my pen.

Prompt: “10. the monsters are scared of me”
Prompter: @imlaurengreen #imlaurengreenprompts

You thought we’d be silent?
Silenced into letting you get off
Get out of this purgatory you put US in
Your sins, that will haunt us all

Hunting us for scars, glass or lace to point at
Poignant memories scrapped to scorn and hate
Mandates of halos until there’s sufficient testimony
Or enough money to prove innocence

Common sense sold to the highest bidder
Bid for her sanity and his freedom
Free dumbasses will carry on stirring the pot
but the monsters are scared of me now

We vow to wield our voices and truth,
Miscontrued however they may try to twist it
To wish it away out of consequential fear, not forgiveness.
They couldn’t give less of a shit about the facts and impact, if they can get away with it

Prompt: I've been dying since birth.

If you’ve been dying quietly for years, remember this..the fact that you are still here means some small, stubborn part of you is still begging to be found...
