How do we build platforms outside of corporate control?

How do we boycott with integrity?

How can we become more offline/analog?

How do we avoid virtue signalling?

When we asked our @saffronrecords community what questions were front of mind for them when considering the knotty intersection of music and activism, these were some of the responses they came back with.

On Monday evening, we’ll be unravelling these questions with three leading voices in the arts and social justice space @nickyboehm, Ãzuka (Jessika) Khazrik (@aatma.amtaa) and @imm___o

Journalist @chal_ravens will be steering the discussion, before opening the floor to a live audience Q&A

If you’d like to join, we still have a few donation-based tickets available, with all proceeds going to @medicalaidpal

spamming u all atm but how else are we gna catch up with all the yapping I’ve been lucky to do in the last six weeks !!

I’m giving Marc by Jacobs by Marc Jacobs here but it’s from the @musicdeclares x @hothousebookclub x @sexyclimatechange Reclaiming Tomorrow: Culture as Resistance, Community as survival live panel event where we discussed how art, community, and resistance can shape more just, joyful futures.

I was joined by four gorgeous guests who are each reimagining activism through storytelling, technology, politics, and club nights. Obvs it’s available on the @sexyclimatechange podcast feed (go listen) 🫶

Big thank u to the panelists @dazeaghaji, @joycelynlongdon, @imm___o and @thediyora plus @lime.zoda & @asiaahmed @subsolarsoundsystem for being on the decks for us 👯‍♀️

It was a busy month for @hothousebookclub, with two socials and a bookclub in May, but an honourable mention goes to our collaboration event with NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET/ @musicdeclares at the @piehouse.coop a few weeks ago.

@isseymg introduced and moderated our panel, featuring myself, @joycelynlongdon, @imm___o and @dazeaghaji . — which will soon be on the @sexyclimatechange podcast. We discussed the importance of storytelling as a form of resistance, highlighting how poor material conditions in creative fields often hinder those stories from being told or heard. And the urgency of better political narratives in response to escalating global security and environmental challenges.

After, we had music from AS3A (@asiaahmed), @subsolarsoundsystem and @lime.zoda , who all created the perfect environment for all of us to mingle, chat and dance after the talk.

Thanks to all who came, and for those who missed out this time, make sure to come to our next event!

📢 WHAT DOES THE FUTURE SOUND LIKE? 📢

📍 11:35, open to all with a SXSW London pass 📍

@joycelynlongdon @madamegandhi @lauraemisch @clubs0l

This panel brings together climate communicator Joycelyn Longdon and environmental journalist Imogen Malpas (who together DJ as @subsolarsoundsystem) with two visionary artists—Madame Gandhi and Laura Misch—whose work transcends conventional boundaries of music, intertwining it with activism, environmental advocacy and social justice. Their discussion will explore the intersections of music as a catalyst for ecological awareness, a platform for amplifying underrepresented voices, and a tool for driving systemic change.

SPEAKERS:

@lauraemisch is a saxophonist, singer, producer and field recordist from South London. Her music brings together her three core voices—saxophone, vocals, and synthesis—blending electronic production with a deep connection to the natural world.

@joycelynlongdon is an award-winning environmental justice technologist, communicator & PhD candidate at Cambridge University. She was 2022’s winner of the Emerging Designer London Design Medal & was featured in British Vogue’s 2023 Forces for Change Issue.

@madamegandhi is an award-winning artist and activist. She has been listed as Forbes 30 Under 30 in Music and BBC 100 Women. Her mission is to use music as a medium for a message about positivity, personal expression and human thriving.

@imm___o is an environmental journalist, medical student and founder of the award-winning Club SOL, a collective connecting people to planet through creativity. Her single ‘the garden’ was recently shortlisted for the BBC Tune Into Nature Music Prize.
