Also: Shoutout an unsere Geländegestaltung und alle Künstler*innen! 🫂🧡

Recurring Dream is an immersive light and sound installation inspired by Dreamachine (1959), created by Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville. Dreamachine used rhythmic pulses of strobing light to produce vivid patterns of hallucinatory visual effects. Gysin’s work explored “interior vision”, offering not images but the conditions through which they might arise.

Recurring Dream extends this proposition outward, transforming a contained perceptual device into an immersive environment. Light unfolds in shifting forms that gather and dissolve, while time loosens into cycles of acceleration and suspension.

A sonic field moves in concert with the work, circling, phasing and folding back on itself. Patterns of light grow and oscillate between rapid motion and stillness. Sounds traverse the space alongside wandering beams of light, drifting and repeating until light and sound begin to feel like two halves of a greater whole.

At a time when we consume images almost constantly through screens, Recurring Dream asks for something slower and more physical: to be present with an experience that cannot be fully captured in a photograph or video.

After nearly two years in the making, the work was shown as part of @thedarkroomsexhibition in July 2026.

This piece has brought me tremendous joy and fulfillment which would not have been remotely possible without the combined efforts of many talented people to whom I owe my gratitude.

For their technical and creative contributions, without which I would be completely lost:
@helldorfer_engineering mechanical engineering
@stratos_bichakis embedded systems engineering
@lukasesser electrical engineering
@immerglotzer additional programming and production
@thatshems gong composition

For generously donating their time and expertise in assistance:
@lieboldmarc @derderder.cc Ross Jackson

For capturing the magic:
@frank_sauer exhibition video

For their vision, support and execution of a flawlessly curated and produced exhibition:
@clarasauer @studiosvensauer

For their encouragement and galvanizing belief in me and the project:

🎆 Cone・@immerglotzer

“Cone” is a light installation by Hamburg based artists, Jeldrik Henschel and Emil Lorenz, that explores the tension between analog and digital light.

In this piece, laser beams meet halogen lamps; technological precision encounters the immediate warmth of the analog.
By avoiding LEDs in favor of halogen sources, the installation introduces a physical thermal layer to the experience. Standing directly beneath the array, the audience feels the presence of the light beams through the heat of the filaments, creating a tangible contrast to the cold precision of the lasers.

The system is driven by a live-generative soundscape that dictates the visual architecture. Audio signals are translated in real-time into control data: specific frequencies drive the intensity of the halogen arrays, while sonic transients generate the vector paths for the lasers. The light does not merely accompany the audio; it acts as the direct physical output of the sound signal.

19.12. @subspacepartys
31.12. NTSC a division of @pal.hamburg

, was uns sehr glücklich macht!

@hafenklanghamburg @demorave.hamburg @janukrohm @alths_grafik @melina__djmille @immerglotzer @giovannidinello @neogen.hh @axelander.strauss @iamtimosommer
