1710 points. The highest-scoring women’s K1 ride under ICF rules.

It’s rare that I compete just for the sake of competing. I’m a strong believer that everyone’s best and biggest competitor is themselves, and that the most rewarding element of competing in freestyle is the pursuit of self-improvement.

After the Krakow World Cup, with 2 weeks until team selections, I set myself the goal of trying to break 2000 points in the Inlet gate. I know it’s possible, but it’s definitely not easy, and I think very few people appreciate the athleticism and skill the top paddlers have when they’re pushing rides over 2k.

The better you get at freestyle, the more it becomes a puzzle of stringing as many high-scoring tricks together as possible without fatiguing, rather than simply doing the tricks you can do.

For me at least, the better I get, the more physically demanding the sport becomes, and competition rides get more and more taxing.

After the World Cup, I got ill and didn’t end up getting the training time in the Inlet that I wanted. Over the weekend, I was unsure whether I wanted to compete, but I decided there was no better time to see if I could push myself and maybe break my record, even when feeling a bit rough.

On my first ride, I did the best and most beautiful start to a competition ride I’ve ever done. My second ride ended up being my highest-scoring, but I frustratingly messed up my left lunar and my left space. I also didn’t push for cleans on McNasties.

I’m proud to once again push the highest women’s ICF score that little bit higher. Mission 2k is still on. I’ll get there. 💪
