Ride for Rhinos is celebrating its 10th Ride this January.

What began in 2016, when the first Ride was organised @antafricasafaris has grown into a much-anticipated annual adventure.

Since then, nine Rides have taken place — with a virtual edition in 2021 during COVID — bringing together 110 incredible riders, who have each committed to raising vital funds to protect rhinos and support the Waterberg community.

Together, these riders have raised over £215,000 — nearly 5 million rand. These funds have strengthened security, supported local people, and helped protect one of South Africa’s most precious wildlife regions.

A major impact of the Ride has been the expansion of the LPR camera network, creating safer spaces for both wildlife and residents. Much of the Ride’s funding has gone toward establishing new monitoring points across a vast 235,000-hectare area managed by the Waterberg Security Initiative.

Thanks to this continued support @waterbergrhinouk , the region now has 25 active surveillance points, contributing to one of the safest rural areas in South Africa.

Ride for Rhinos isn’t only a ride for wildlife — it’s a ride for the people of the Waterberg. It helps protect lives, support livelihoods, and preserve the natural heritage of a truly extraordinary place.

Just over 120 days to go until Ride for Rhinos 2026 – and this year we celebrate a decade of impact.

What began ten years ago @antafricasafaris has become an annual adventure that captures the spirit of both people and place. Twelve riders set out with guides, full of anticipation and uncertainty, and over the week experience the untamed beauty of the Waterberg.

Every day, bonds deepen — with horse, with fellow riders, and with the landscape itself. There are moments of exhilaration, challenge, fatigue, and triumph. By the end, the group is no longer twelve individuals, but a team forged by shared effort, laughter, and a purpose that goes beyond the ride.

For many, it is life-changing: friendships formed, memories forever, and a renewed appreciation for the fragile wild.

Yet the true significance extends far beyond each participant. Every Ride for Rhinos shines a spotlight on the Waterberg and its vital rhino population — raising awareness, support, and hope for the future of one of Africa’s most threatened species @waterbergrhinouk
