Day 39 of Training Future Organizers to Bring Home the Goods. Aye, all you under-30s I’ve trained, I need you to pick a target and go win something. Think structural change. Think material conditions. Think something people can actually feel. I know you have the power. Now, you will need elders who can give you cover, but avoid old heads. There is a difference. We can talk about that later. Y’all are undefeated. Learn a little Black Power. Pull some lessons out of a book. Adjust them for the times we’re in. Then go get something. I’m about to tag y’all too. It’s your turn. Go turn up. I’m here for it. Call me. I’ll bring people. —-Jamel (And don’t come at me with no Black entrepreneurship scams. That’s the quickest way to get blocked.)

(3 of 3) “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” ~ Shirley Chisholm Wednesday, July 31, 2024 Springwater Supper Club Nashville, Tennessee Realtalk: sometimes a writers night is a bit of sausage fest. But tonight we had 6 powerful, strong, brilliant young women on stage; so awesome. We also had a great showing of spoken word in addition to songwriting. One for the books: + Sian (see-ahn) made her Wednesday debut & brought the house down + John Lomax III hyped his Basement show & DEBUT ALBUM (congrats!) + Vince & Anders took us somewhere tropical with a smooooooth duet + Tim told the rest of the Puff The Magic Dragon story, it's scary + James Mathias proved it's now safe to talk about Corona again... + John Allingham challenged our ideas of songs, lyrics, and melody + Kolt nearly teared up and damn it, I got something in my eye too + Grace painted us a portrait of that late night spark we all know + Susannah sang from the heart and let us all into her sonic world + Kurt and his dog Jesus proved sometimes one song is all you need + Anders & Slide Burns made sweet sonic love and we all WATCHED it + Matt Awesome "threw the book at us" (and left us wanting more!!) + Jane sat cross-legged on stage and STOPPED TIME with magic music + Paige made her debut & (wo)manually connected our hearts & minds + Peyton grooved so good, stray harmonica players were joining in! + Kearra straddled the line between speaking, singing, and silence + Jon Lipshaw rocked that acoustic guitar harder than Gary Cherone + Eric tuned while he played while he tuned while he played whi... + Chris delivered the most enigmatic performance - by disappearing + Peter Pan showed up, with updates on his new culinary philosophy + Solo Ghetto was a roller coaster of emotions (and nobody puked!) + and finally our weird host played the song he wrote 10 hours ago A wide eyed welcome to our three next level newcomers (Sian, Grace Braswell, and Paige Hodge), welcome back to the returning champions (see Notebook Of Infamy photo for names), and see you all next Wednesday. #thespringwater #writersatthewater #keepnashvillegnarly
