Pizza Review #829 (@impastonyc) Impasto. Happy National Pizza Month. Unfortunately, I didn't make it, to Impasto last week, for New York City Pizza Week. They had a once-in-a-lifetime special slice, as part of NYC Pizza Week. 21 pizza places participated in making special slices, that will never be made again. I decided to take the trip and get a everyday slice lol. I ended up getting the Zucchine E Ricotta. It had zucchine cream, cow ricotta, and fresh basil. So good. It was airy and light. Honestly, it didn't taste like zucchine. Can't say, enough good things about this slice other than I highly recommend it.

NEW YORK CITY AND BEYOND: YOU SHOWED UP AND ATE YOUR WAY THROUGH THE CITY! 🍕

Just like that, the first-ever NYC Pizza Week is a wrap! Over the past two weeks, thousands of New Yorkers and visitors ate their way through the 21 participating pizza shops, trying one-of-a-kind Signature Slices you can't get anywhere else. The way you showed up for these independent, local shops blew past all my expectations, and I'm completely blown away.

Now the work begins. Over the next two weeks, I'll be reviewing the sales data to calculate the total donation to Slice Out Hunger, and going through every rating you left to crown the Best Slice of NYC Pizza Week 2026.

And needless to say, NYC Pizza Week will be back in 2027! 🍕

It’s not everyday you can get pizza by the slice with toppings infused with truffles, but you can until Sunday at @impastonyc .

Co-owner Jac of Impasto build a slice that showcases his love for the mushroom. He starts with a base of mushroom cream, topped with fresh shiitake mushrooms and baked until the mushrooms cook down and develop flavor. Once it's out of the oven, he pipes on fresh Italian buffalo milk ricotta blended with black truffle, finishes it with parsley oil, and adds an extra drizzle of truffle oil over the top. There really aren't words for how good this one is.

This is my second Impasto post. They opened their second location in Brooklyn, maybe just over a year ago. More spacious location than their Fort Greene location. I can tell, they built this one out exactly how they wanted it. From what I’ve gathered, these guys are very Italian. Every time I go in there that’s all I hear. Not Brooklyn Italian. ITALIAN-Italian! So I am sure their ingredients, flour, dough etc is top notch.

They did not start doing slices at their old place originally from want I can remember. They just had their Roman style, which is similar to a Sicilian (correct me if I am wrong. I am often wrong lol). I prefer it honestly because it’s lighter, has more air pockets. You can eat too and not feel like you just ate a led square. Their slices are on point. Perfect bake from tip to crust. Sauce is very very good. It’s very well balanced. The cheese, probably a low moisture mozz. This is top 10 pizza.

The square was fantastic. Takes me back to Italy, super fresh sauce and bufalo (Bufala) mozzarella. They throw on that basil leaf. It’s a beautiful looking pizza and it taste even better. Besides the potato and rosemary, this is my favorite. No doubt about it.

*rant* - I honestly do not understand why Impasto doesn’t make these list that are often ridiculous. But this goes to show you. These influencers don’t venture and do their own research. They just look at what the guy before them is doing and just make their own version, their own review. It’s whack lazy and boring. Because Impasto is not as accessible as Williamsburg, West Village or Alphabet city for examples, it often gets skipped. But that’s alright. The people in the neighborhood know what’s up and if you aren’t a lazy content creature, you also know the vibes. Sorry and thanks for reading.

It’s a Clinton Hill collab!! This Tuesday, September 29th, we’re teaming up with our friends and neighbors @impastonyc for a pizza pop-up. Featuring three special pies + Impasto’s Margherita, plus some Entre Nous classics and Italian Magnums poured by the glass!

As usual, a handful of tables are available on Resy but we’ll save lots of space for walk-ins. We’ll also have slices for sale at the counter. See you Tuesday!

Amazing cut of pizza!!!

Funghi E Tartufo Nero. It has Crema di funghi, sauteed shiitake, ricotta di bufala al tartufo nero, parsley and garlic oil.

There are 2 Impasto on the list. I went to both because I am going to all the pizzerias on the list. But the slice was the same at both locations so no need to go to both if u don't want to.

Roman-style pizza is easily one of my favorite pizza styles in the world. When I started making pizza at home, it was the style I gravitated toward most. One of the defining features of al taglio pizza — "pizza by the slice" — is its creative use of toppings. In Rome, you'll find everything from a classic pizza rossa (just tomato sauce) to elaborate seafood combinations. It gets bold, unexpected, and genuinely amazing.

So it's no surprise to see that same spirit come through in @impastonyc Pizza Week Signature Slice: Funghi E Tartufo Nero.
The creative mind behind it is co-owner @jaconthegram He starts with a base of mushroom cream, topped with fresh shiitake mushrooms and baked until the mushrooms cook down and develop flavor. If I could only eat one style of pizza forever, it'd be Roman pizza al taglio—thin, crispy, sold by weight, topped with everything from potatoes and figs to prosciutto and eggplant. Walk through Rome and it's everywhere.

In NYC, it's always been rare. Shops have tried and folded over the years, but al taglio is finally having a moment—thanks to social media exposing pizza lovers to styles worldwide, NYC makers are taking more risks, and Detroit, New Haven, Neapolitan, and now Roman al taglio are carving out real estate next to the classic slice.

Enter @impastonyc Co-owners Jac Rigolio and Luca Pelliccioni opened their first shop in 2021 mid-pandemic and expanded to a second location in 2025. Their trays—like the Salsiccia e Funghi and the Rossa e Bufala with Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP—taste straight out of Rome. They're also turning out fresh mortadella and burrata sandwiches daily.

Sixteen years ago, KCTL began with a simple mission: make tennis more accessible by providing free lessons to children living in and around Brooklyn public housing.

What started with one man, some pop-up nets, and a few volunteers now supports more than 1,000 young players across six sites through tennis and life-planning programs.
