felt inspired by a voicenote from my beautiful friend @sessansparrfelt to share some thoughts on relationships

i used to think love was supposed to feel overwhelming. instead, the healthiest love i’ve ever experienced felt like coming home.

•••

when people ask me how i’ve made a relationship work with someone from the other side of the world, they usually expect me to talk about flights, visas, distance or sacrifice.

but contemplating it ~
that was never the hardest part

when we met, neither of us was looking for someone to complete us. we already loved our lives. we weren’t two halves trying to become whole. we were two whole humans CHOOSING to build something together.

and maybe that’s why the distance never even became a question

it was simply:
“ok… so HOW do we make this work?”

there wasn’t a game. there wasn’t jealousy. there wasn’t any waiting for someone to prove their love.

there was SAFETY.

and i’ve realised that safety is one of the most misunderstood feelings in love. because if you’ve only known inconsistency, chaos can feel like chemistry. but love that lasts often feels much quieter.

it feels like being able to exhale. it feels like knowing that when life gets hard, you won’t immediately lose each other. you know that you go through it all, together.

we’ve had moments that could have broken us.
grief.
fear.
uncertainty.
becoming parents far away from both our families.
building a life in a country that belongs to neither of us.

and yet ~

the relationship was never us against each other. it was always us against ANY problem. i don’t think real love is about never being challenged ~ it’s more about finding someone who stays at the table when the challenge arrives.

someone who chooses repair over pride.
understanding over winning.
curiosity over assumptions.

because the butterflies eventually settle.

what remains after that •••

is the foundation you built while your hearts were calm enough to truly see one another.

and that’s the kind of love i’d choose.

you don’t need to be taught how to be feminine
you don’t need to perform softness
you don’t need to earn rest

you simply needs to feel safe enough to unfold 🪷 the right man won’t create your femininity - but he will create the conditions for you so that you no longer have to stay in survival - he will become your safe space so that you can return back home 💗

where you can exhale
where you can soften her shoulders
where your body remembers that it doesn’t have to carry everything alone

•••

to every woman reading this:
may you never confuse chasing with love or hyper-independence with freedom

and to every man:
your greatest strength is not how much you can control but how deeply your presence allows love to bloom

true masculinity doesn’t overpower the feminine - it protects the space where she can remember herself~
