✨In Awe✨

Yesterday, I reflected a lot on the community of healers I have cultivated around me and that God has brought into my life throughout the years and I felt this huge sense of gratitude, honor and pride. I have always been resourced since a young age to seek out what I could not get from the caregivers around me in my home. Although I understand the trauma and reasons to why abuse, neglect and emotional scarcity was present in my life growing up, this little girl had to learn how to keep herself safe and I did it through surrounding my self with other healers and communities that resembled some of the things I yearned for. I learned to do many things on my own and not ask for help, but what is so beautiful is simultaneously, I learned who to be around so that I could learn what was healthier so I could give it to myself.

These souls are the healers that are currently in my life that I feel so honored to recognize and share a moment of gratitude with. There have been many healers that have come in and out of my life, especially as I think about the church family that was there for me in some dark times back in Vegas when I was in my twenties. I think of old middle and high school friends that I grew up with who saw so much of my early years and were a blessing. Even the family of my ex husband that took me in as their own. I’m grateful for all of them.

These souls here don’t just show up for me in their medicine, they touch all who encounter them with it as well! That is why our community, especially in Bend, are blessed to know they are here, sharing their love and heart with so many. They represent the change we will see and are seeing🌻

Please check out my highlight above ⬆️ to get more information about each and every one of them and their offerings. As I continue to meet healers through my own healing journey and my professional work, I will continue to add them in this highlight. I know that list will continue to grow as I connect with people relationally✨🌻✨

✨Collective Affirmations✨

As I learn ways to decolonize and deconstruct colonial healing that can be so binary and individualistic, I lean more into collective healing.

When we think about affirmations and self-love, because of abuse in families, ruptured relationships, and oppressive systems we can believe that one heals alone, or that healing begins and/or ends within. Rarely do we even realize that our own remedies for self-love, affirmations, and healing may still be a by product of lack, individuality, scarcity, coping, fear, assimilation and/or survival.

Colonial healing comes from a place of scarcity, lack of abundance, and disconnection to others, ancestors, lineage and earth.

The past month I have been fighting imposter thoughts telling me I’m not good enough, or maybe I’m the problem, maybe I’m still “broken” or I haven’t really healed from my past and that’s impacting others. Questioning what I say or do. All Individualistic and binary lies I’ve internalized. I was then reminded (again lol) by Spirit to pay attention to the writings on the wall, my council, my inner wisdom. This inner wisdom is not just SELF, it’s my community. These writings are affirmations from some of my community members and those I’ve worked with. I can affirm myself all day, AND I am reminded that because pain happens in relationships/systems, deep transformative healing happens in relationship🌻✨

What are your writings on the wall? What is your community affirming within you?

Our next grant recipient is Bella Martinez of Communitie Wellness! This organization strives to offer a non-hierarchical
holistic hub of support, which centers the collective
potency of community care in creating a more
embodied and compassionate society. We believe that
rest and self-care is critical to restore and repair our
individual and cultural nervous systems.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We believe in heart-centered connection with our clients. Our goal is not just to listen to our clients with our ears, but in tandem with our hearts and hands. We listen, tune in and allow the tissues to guide us into deeper connection with the body, one part touch, one part intuition, one part heart. We serve as a hub for communities and individuals to connect with self and others.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you Bella for all that you bring to the community. To learn more about Bella and her practice go to our practitioners page at healingjusticecollective.org or directly at communitiewellness.com

We are devastated by the murders of six Asian women and two others in Atlanta last night. This is not new. Since March 2020 there have been over 3,800 reports of anti-Asian hate crimes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anti-Asian racism and xenophobia are alive and well and it is not. okay.

We want to acknowledge that white supremacy has historically succeeded in dividing different groups of people of color, which often means that Asians are erased from the movement and pitted against other movements like Black Lives Matter or Latinx movements. Let this be a call to mend the divide and move towards greater solidarity. Let this also be a moment to grieve the ongoing suffering this has caused.

Join us tonight at 6pm at Pioneer Park as we gather together in rage, grief, and solidarity. There will be speakers and a moment of silence and prayer to honor the lives of our Asian community and those whose lives have been lost.

Bring a flashlight, dress warm, wear a mask and please socially distance.
If you have an electric candle, please bring that too. We discourage open flame candles. As supply last, we will provide electric candles and flowers.

If you are unable to attend tonight, we invite you to light a candle in your home as an act of solidarity and to share the image with us. You can tag #stopaapihate #wekeepussafe #westandwithAAPI #hateisavirus #bendstandswithAAPI

This vigil is being co-created by and with Asian Community members in Central Oregon. If you want to be involved, please contact us.

Please join us next Wednesday Feb. 17, at 5PM PST for this workshop with the lovely Judith Sadora, @sadorawellness. The purpose of this Affinity space is to center African traditional practices as it relates to wellness to provide black participants a place to learn, feel seen, and deepen their consciousne around black wellness. We will unpack 8 specific themes and concepts found across the African Diaspora and how these themes made their way into the integration of spiritual practices of African slaves in a Christian focused society. We will provide relevant modern-day practices that bridge these traditional practices. Register this workshop with the link in our bio. We are so thankful to have Bella Martínez as a HJC affiliated practitioner and program assistant! Bella (she/her/ella) is a Mother "Mami" (to a bicultural little and one little on the way), an LMT / bodyworker, an energy medicine practitioner, an entrepreneur & founder of a wellness studio, Communitie (@communitie.wellness), a human rights & social justice activist, and a creative visionary in Bend, Oregon. Bella is a first generation Latina, born in a border town in south Texas and grew up living between both Mexico and the U.S. throughout her entire life. She is a daughter of two Mexican immigrants from Tampico & San Luis Potosí. Living in both countries and having only Spanish-speaking parents, she became fluent in both Español & English. Decolonization practices are at the root of her work (thanks to her amazing teachers, guides and friends on this path) and it has become an integral part of her life.
Her healing work draws from a great understanding of scientifically proven trauma-awareness practices, Mexican & Indigenous Shamanic practices, herbalism, plant medicine, breathwork and sound. She has two decades of lived experience, studies and dedication in the healing arts and wellness industry. She is passionate about intuitive therapeutic bodywork , Somatic Experiencing trauma healing through the body, art therapy and energy medicine.
When she is not working with clients , you may find her with her sweet 6 year old daughter creating artwork, with her loving partner listening to music, dream weaving, practicing yoga, or out in nature with the family including their furry child, Willie.
Bella joined the HJC partnership because for many years it has been her dream to partner with a non-profit like this and she believes whole-heartedly in the great vision of resourcing diverse therapy modalities and healing services to the BIPOC community and other historically oppressed/marginalized communities. Find more about Bella under “practitioners” on our website!

Through the usage of props, soothing music, and essential oils, @fatima.castro13 facilitates mindful techniques such as breath work, meditation for self-inquiry, and deep restorative forms to support the nervous system. This class will teach students how to adapt and modify certain forms and postures to their body, increasing relaxation, balance, and a sense of inner peace while decreasing reactivity.
This mindful yoga practice encourages great insights as to how we hold tension and trauma, move (or do not move), and how we respond/relate to the sensations in the overall mind-body.
💗Bring all the pillows and blankets you have in your home!! Saturday 2/13 at 10am PST, 12pm LLC CT
