Loidis - From the Toolkit of Lovers

The return of the Dance Music full length album is upon us.

There’s two new Dance Music LPs that you need to hear today.

Welcome back, it’s been about a month or so since I did one of these. I’ve been in Europe, big shout out to all the folks that hosted me in Stockholm, London, Berlin, Naples and Reykjavik. I got to swim in that abandoned pool in Iceland, so that was really cool.

Anyways, I’m back, and today I’m talking about the new records from DJ Popup and Loidis. Both of them are incredible bodies of work, and there’s something about that that feels special in our current landscape. The focus on singles, the dwindling attention spans of listeners, and even the financial hurdles that producing a full length record entails. I just love that both of these guys are committing to the medium.

I’ve talked about Popup before, his last 12” before this is an instant classic. The whole Aarhus crew is having an incredible year, and this record is an amazing distillation of that sound. The record is called Glad, and 10 tracks, and it just flows so well. It’s a really cohesive, nocturnal house record.

If you’re not familiar with Loidis, it’s a project from Brian Leeds, who you may also know as Huerco S. This record, which is called From The Toolkit of Lovers, goes minimal in its sound, and maximal in its scope: 12 songs, just under 2 hours, 3 LPs. It’s an incredibly rewarding listen if you’re able to give it your time and attention.

You can check out both these records in my bio.

REVIEW // Following 2024’s One Day, Brian Leeds returns to Incienso with From The Toolkit Of Lovers, a sprawling, twelve-track, 110-minute triple LP recorded over the summer of 2025. This feels like something of a distillation of the techniques and ideas accumulated across his various projects. A patient (there’s that word again), unhurried exploration of what can be achieved with what is actually quite a restrained artist’s palette of sounds. And while the album’s considerable runtime might raise a few eyebrows, there’s something a bit wonderful about the confidence with which Leeds allows the tunes to unfold. Why not bask in those soundwaves a bit when the water’s this inviting?
