How did it take me until the afternoon of December 18th to do the Christmas Window for our Murder shop? I went for a green theme and Christmas crime books. We are open until 2pm Christmas Eve and then we are shut until January 18th or later. Come and buy presents in person or DM me for close ups of our Christmas titles. There is still time to get them by the big day. During lockdown3 we will be doing mail order as usual and can deliver locally. Please keep us busy. This represents my main view of the last few days - the excellent CNN coverage of the US election. I watched their announcement that Biden and Harris won while having a bath after a nearly ten mile walk with @coachingbyhelen (we got lost) I started crying happy tears and have not yet stopped. The fact that Trump has to drive back from his golf game to the White House through the massive celebratory crowds in Black Lives Matter Plaza makes me even happier. Please watch Van Jones’s reaction - I think what he said is shared by not only millions of Americans but by billions across the world. Sometimes our street looks like Diagon Alley, especially in the light of a wet October morning. I have been completely absent from IG as something very wonderful but time filling has happened to me. Nine years ago one of my dearest friends Joslin died of cancer at the age of 37. She left three young children. Through the excruciating pain of cancer that had attacked her spine she and I spent hospice days and hospice nights facing the fears about the future. Joslin’s main worry was that she would loose her children through death and not be there to protect them. Her children were at the time 7,6 and 2 and I tried to reassure her that for the older two she would never be lost or forgotten. As I had lost my own mother at the age of 6, I knew this, really knew this to be the case. I was able to tell her that at any important event in my life I still felt the love, support and encouragement from my real mother. I am also lucky to have that from my stepmother so feel doubly looked after. Her only boy, Jeremy, is now living above Addyman Books in Hay. He came mid August and we both felt it was the right time for me to offer him the love and care he needed and deserved. As my own children are in their later twenties taking on a teenager has been challenging but such fun and feels like the best investment a person can make. The joy Jeremy is bringing me is always tinged with a sadness knowing that his mother is not here to celebrate this bright, funny, 6 ft 2 rake -thin young man through his triumphs or be there to support him when things are tough. As he broke two arms a week after he arrived here, even more looking after was needed but he is virtually healed and at school and filling my life in a way I didn’t realise may have needed filling. Thorne and Franca are coping well with this new addition to their family. Hopefully now Jezz is almost well and at full time school I can return to this wonderful book loving community.
