Still can’t get over the immense amount of support I felt throughout this entire marathon journey. From receiving that email from Project H.O.O.D., to MONTHS of endless training, to every mile of the race, and finally crossing that finish line after 6:42:42. It was such a full-circle moment taking my medal pictures and seeing the building I helped fundraise for come to fruition. A space being built for kids who look like me on the South Side of Chicago, because they deserve access to opportunities, positive outlets, and the freedom of movement too. 🤍

My sis Aliyah being my saving grace thee ENTIRE trip, the photos, the messages, my parents surprising me, Miss Michelle being an absolute lifesaver with the aid, and the random Muslim sisters whose arms I cried in during the last 12K 😭😭😭 Every single moment reminded me that even when the miles get hard, I’m surrounded by so much love and support. This journey was about so much more than running 26.2 miles, or doing a world major. It was about community, representation, and being part of something bigger than myself.

Thank you, Chicago. Until next time ⭐️

We All did our First Half & Full Marathon within the same year. Kinda chic to come to 816 run club, and to run for the first time, or the 57262673th time, and to push yourself farther than you thought, and to walk if you didn’t want to run, and to talk to a new person, and to scream “great work” to someone that you don’t know, and to wake up early to beat the heat, and to stop to take pics of the sunrise, and to not compare your day 1 to someone’s day 1,478, and to fuel before your run, and refuel after your run, and to not call coffee “breakfast”, and to drink coffee with your friends, and to say thank you to the baristas, and to clap for the person running next to you, and to say good morning to everyone we pass on the streets, and to show up every Saturday after!!!!
