Eeyore’s 105th birthday on film

It’s been 10 years since the first time I celebrated this beloved donkey. So much has changed over the years, and yet, so much has stayed exactly the same. It’s kinda funny to me that for 62 consecutive years, Austinites have celebrated this chronically depressed, and spiritually domesticated creature.

Usually on a bed of grass in a neighborhood park, you’ll find aunties with their tiddies out, drum and dance circles formed by people of all ages, and a go to substance of choice usually in the form of liquids or herbs. If you stray away from the noise and deeper into the trees, you’ll find little pockets of friends hanging out in conversation pits, musicians with portable string and wind instruments, and essentially a beautiful little oasis.

Over the past decade or so, Eeyore’s birthday has become a place where all people (except tech bros) are welcome to meet under the sun, or the shade of a large oak tree, and be free from judgment from those around them. I think that’s what makes this day so special, and why it’s cherished by those who aren’t afraid to get a little weird.
